Watching St. Joseph's now and after watching Penn State light up Allderdice, there's just too many players 4.5 hours away for us to totally ignore.

Fran McCaffrey is a Philly guy and has done well at 2 difficult places to win but I dont know if he still has connections. Any others?

You're on a mad tear posting all kinds of stuff so maybe if something hits you can come back and say I told you so.

It's what he does. During the conference realignment merry go round he probably posted 100 different scenarios. When one of those actually came true he used it as proof that he knew all along. The other 99? What are you talking about? What other 99? He only ever posted that one thing that eventually happened.

So which is it? Miller or a Philly guy?

How about if we call John Calipari and ask him to go to Fran McCaffrey's house in Philly where he can call Sean Miller and offer him the job?

Well, Sean Miller and his staff have connections to Philly. We absolutely dropped the ball in Philly.

I would imagine when Miller or Calipari come to Pitt that it would mostly be a formality when it comes to getting Pat Chambers to sign on as the Associate Head Coach.

How about actually concentrating on getting a good coach instead of dwelling on where he's from or what college he attended?

So u are saying u have crossed George Karl and Herb Sendek off the list? jk

Hypothetically speaking, who is on your shortlist?

I do think Sean gets the first call, I think he'll really consider it, and then turn it down, after that, I'm kind of lost on where Barnes will go.

If I'm just throwing out random names that I would look at if I were Barnes, I do think I would look at a couple Big East coaches. Chris Holtman, maybe Wojo. No idea if they'd have any interest, but a school like Pitt probably looks at the Big East, AAC, A-10 if you are looking for a coach to move up.

Those 2 are about as close to home as it gets for me.

I see a lot more west coast games these days and wish geography wasn't such an issue. I would love to see Randy Bennett be Pitt's next coach, but I know it will never happen.

LOL - that is why I said that. Ben Howland was from the West. What do u think about the guy at Hawaii? He went to school in PA and is from NJ.

Mick Cronin was kind of a dark horse guy I thought they might be able to poach (using the whole Buzz Williams school of thought where he hates being in a non-P5 conference and will jump at the chance to leave) but the UNLV thing messed that up.

After that you probably call Miller and Mack. I like Amaker, too.

Then just interview guys like Holtmann, Woj, Wade, and see who gives you the best vibe. Hire them. If it gets below that level then you might be in a tough spot.

Not saying Pitt is doomed, you just go from "I think this guy can reasonably continue what Dixon had going" to "welp, no idea how this is gonna go".

I thought about Cronin too, but Cincy is probably in a better spot than Marquette was to keep a coach.

Holtman just to me seems like a guy who can coach, I don't know how he'd recruit, but he fits the demo of a guy I'd go after.

Is there any Chris Mack connection other than he's in a neighboring state doing a great job? He played at X, why would he leave? He's in the Big East now, he can get 1 and 2 seeds in that league. Does X not pay?

Honestly I haven't really thought about individual candidates that much yet.

I think most people here either think too highly of the Pitt program, or else sell it way too short. Anyone thinking Calipari or Sean Miller are serious candidates is being foolish in my opinion, as are those who think Pitt will be stuck with some lame assistant from a big school or a one shot wonder from a tiny conference.

The one recent hire that gives me hope is Buzz Williams going from Marquette to Va Tech. Better conference to be sure, but a much weaker program and no prior ties to the school. Not even remotely on the hot seat at Marquette either. If Pitt can make that type of move I would feel pretty good about things moving forward.

Miller and Mack Yes. Amaker, Holtmann, and Wojo - No. Wade is a Yes.

On Mack, I think you just call him as part of your due diligence to see if he's in any way receptive. I don't think there's any chance he comes here, Xavier is a really strong program. But, they're still a mid-major and you just never know if a guy is itching to go P5.

I think any of the first few guys I mentioned (Miller, Cronin, Mack, Amaker) would be longshots but you might contact them just on the off-chance the timing is right.

I think the best realistic options are the Holtmann/Wade/Woj group. I like Underwood, but I can't find anything that connects him to the region and he's a bit older.

This is where you look. That is the highest level outside of the P5. The best teams in those leagues are good enough to compete with non blueblood P5 teams. I don't want a coach from a mid level league. Might be too much of a jump.

Miller. That's a no-brainer. But, if we cant get him, we have to look elsewhere and may need a coach that knows how to recruit Philly as good as the coaching legend, Pat Chambers.

How bout we hire Rocky Balboa.

Sean Miller hasn't won in March with all the talent in the world ,has a shady assistant and poor relations with Pitt. How's he going to win big at Pitt. As long as Az employs him that's where he'll be.
