Pitt needs to win its next 7 games

At Notre Dame

-This would give Pitt 4 more Top 100 RPI wins. We would be ranked at worst 20th in the country. Our RPI would be pushing Top 10 Nationally. Our SOS would be 20th or better Nationally. We would be 3-0 in the ACC with the following games against at Louisville, BC, N.C. State, at Florida State, at Clemson, and Virginia Tech.

-My prediction of 18-2 to start off would seem very doable if we can win our next 7 games. Jimmy B is suspended for the Syracuse game. Davidson has one of the worst defenses in the entire country. Notre Dame looks ok, but no where near as good as last year. Pitt should be favored in all of these games except maybe Notre Dame.

-Winning our next 7 will put us in excellent position to get a 4 Seed or better in the NCAA Tournament. We need to sweep the next 7, and I think we will.

Winning at Notre Dame is always very tough.

I agree. Although winning at ND is not a do or die. Davidson is extremely important as I said yesterday. ND, according to RPI forecast, was a 50\50 proposition as recent as yesterday.

Agreed, and if Pitt is truly a tournament caliber team, they will win every one of these games. A loss to any of these teams would be a majaor disappointment.

They can lose that game and still get to 10-11 wins in the league with this team. It's not imperative they win at ND, but every loss makes the next game that much more Important. But to get to 12-6 or 13-5 and have a shot at a top NCAA draw, they gotta win it.

Problem is that if you lose that game, you will still hear and rightfully so, "Pitt hasn't beat anybody..." Look this isn't a good ND team and if Pitt is a solid tournament team, Pitt wins this game.

True, but if Pitt goes into ND with one loss and loses this game they deserve criticism for having beaten no one of note to that time. A loss to ND would make Pitt a suspected NCAA pretender.

I guess I'm confused as to why we NEED to win all of these games at this point. A loss to ND, Cuse, or even Davidson wouldn't be all that damaging. Like you said, plenty of opportunities to get good wins in conference.

Because the goal, at least mine, is to get a top 4 protected seed in the ncaa tournament. The goal isn't to just make the NCAAs, its, to do damage and bust brackets and win games in the NCAA's. We need to win to get the RPI uplift.

No maybes. If that game were being played today Pitt WOULD be the underdog. Clearly. Now that game isn't for another four weeks, and lots of things can happen in four weeks. But if things remain pretty much status quo between now and then Pitt will be the underdog.
 
Joe is correct. If we play at ND right now, we are underdogs. In fact, we will likely only be favored over Davidson by a few points max. I think we win easily.
 
Unless it is the NCAA Tournament... you don't NEED to win any particular game.

Winning at ND is always difficult... and to say we NEED to win there... is absurd. I am hoping we can win all our games going into that game and the one at Louisville, and maybe win one or both of those, but I am not counting on it AND.... we sure as heck don't NEED to win those games.

What would be more important than winning those games... is beating UVA and the Dukies at home. Those teams are better than ND and Ville and.... the games are at the Pete.

We beat EW by 33 and Davidson only beat them by 10. I am not saying we should thus be favored by 23 over Davidson... but IMO 10-15 would be reasonable.

The important thing right now is that we continue to get better as a team. Then, when the time comes, a matter of whether or not we can rise to the occasion and get Ws against the likes of UVA and the Dukies.

The games at ND and Ville will be challenges that is for sure... so we can see if we can rise to the occasion in those cases.

Getting a 4 seed? I'm not impressed.

But, for now, it is Morehead State.

Oh... saying we should beat Cuse because Boeheim is suspended... is WEAK! That makes no difference whatsoever. He is still behind the scenes.

Which a loss to any of those three wouldn't necessarily kill. Especially not at Notre Dame. It's more important to pick up several big wins if we want a protected seed.
 
Notre Dame started the year in the top 25 and is a good team.

A win on the road is always difficult. We'll be underdogs in that game.

I just want to win the next six, including Syracuse and Davidson, and then a win a ND would be gravy.
 
Notre Dame has one of the best home winning percentages of any team in the country. Seems to be not as strong since the move to the ACC but is still quite real.

As far as Ville and Pitino... when was the last time Dixon beat Pitino? Either home or away? Pitino really has had Dixon's number over the last few years... and this game is in the Ville.

Both of these games are going to be very difficult.

I'd guess about 5 or 6, somewhere in that range. And I would think that we would win that one easily, but we have had a problem in the past of coming out flatter than a pancake in the first game after finals. Which Davidson will be.

There seems to be a consensus that this is a pretty could Pitt team-it would be nice if they could prove it by say the middle of the season don't you think? They won't have beaten anyone of note before ND.
 
Obviously they need to win out the rest of the OOC games , then they'll beat a few conference foes they shouldn't and they'll probably lose a few they shouldn't. ( very profound ) What they really need to do is to continue to improve as the season progresses. If they do this they'll be a tournament team that can do some damage.
 
Del, you were talking SU up a few weeks ago. They have lost 2 now, but they are still an NCAA caliber team and a win over them would be a quality win too.
 
If we win our next 6 games and are 13-1 going into the ND game... that is not bad... with 'quality' wins over Davidson and Cuse.

Actually, if we are NOT 13-1 going into the ND game... then that is not good because it means we lost to a team we should have beaten.

In any case, at that point the 'degree of difficulty' goes up significantly. Not only will we have difficult road games at ND and Ville, a bit later we have FSU and Clemson away and they are both improved. Then a bit after that we are looking at Miami and UNC away and those will be very difficult games. In addition to this, tough home games against UVA, Ville and the Dukesters.

So, look for continued improvement in the starting lineup and integrate the bench players... and see if the team can rise to the occasion when the time comes.

Should be favored over Davidson by at least 7 points. Could very well beat them by 15-20.
