Senior defensive end Ejuan Price will be nearly 24-years-old by the end of next football season, but he still would like to play in 2016, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said Monday.

Price played in only six games from 2012-2014 while rehabilitating pectoral, back and chest injuries, and he could be eligible for a sixth year of eligibility.

“We've talked about it,” Narduzzi said. “He told me he'd like to come back.”

Price, who graduated from Woodland Hills in 2011, would need to petition the NCAA for an extra year at the end of the season. The bottom line is that Pitt may need Price next year. Through nine games this season, he has recorded a variety of big plays and leads the team in tackles for a loss (11), sacks (5 1⁄2) and quarterback hurries (six) while also adding a fumble return for a touchdown, pass breakup, forced fumble and blocked kick.

“He hasn't had a lot of opportunitites (in previous seasons),” Narduzzi said. “I think he's having fun. He hasn't played for two years and there are some things he needs to clean up, but he does a lot of big things.”

• Price was named ACC co-defensive lineman of the week, along with North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb. Price returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown and had eight tackles, two sacks and 2 1⁄2 TFLs.

Narduzzi said there are no plans — now or in the future — to move freshman strong safety Jordan Whitehead permanently to offense. Whitehead was named ACC rookie of the week after scoring two touchdowns as a tailback against Notre Dame. Whitehead may be Pitt's best player on defense; he is the team's leading tackler with 73, 20 more than runner-up linebacker Matt Galambos. “If we don't have him back there, I wonder what the yardage looks like and the points look like,” Narduzzi said. Whitehead will continue to play on both sides of the ball, however. Now that there is more depth at safety, with a healthy Reggie Mitchell joining Terrish Webb and Patrick Amara, Whitehead may get a few breaks from defense while offensive coordinator Jim Chaney works him into his game plan. Pitt hasn't had a freshman lead the team in tackles since free safety Ramon Walker in 1999. Walker, a redshirt freshman, totaled 131 tackles.

• There have been 10 Pitt players named ACC players of the week — at least one after every game, except North Carolina.

• The ACC announced that Pitt's game against Louisville on Nov. 21 at Heinz Field will begin at either 3:30 or 3:45 p.m. and be televised on one of three platforms (ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPNews). Final plans will be released after Saturday's games.

Trying to do some research on this.. and by research, I mean typing it in on google and reading first article. Here is what I found, but it is from 2012, i'll see if I can get some numbers more recent..

Football

Graduate student transfer waivers:

81 approved

3 denied

Undergraduate transfer waivers:

85 approved

86 denied

As you can see, the NCAA denies about half of all undergraduate hardship waiver requests, both in basketball and in football. Below are the basketball numbers from April 2011-April 2012 alone:

pghfan--What do transfer waivers have to do with Price requesting an additional year of eligibility? He is not transferring anywhere. He is just going to request an extra year to play at Pitt due to missing so much time due to injury over multiple seasons.

I think you are confusing apples with oranges in his case.

FWIW--Dokish believes Price's request would almost be an automatic yes from the NCAA on getting the extra injury hardship year since he has had so many more injuries and missed so much more time than most who request a hardship year. Price essentially represent the classic case for when the NCAA would grant the extra year.

DC, you are right bro, my bad. This is completely irrelevant. I thought I was getting "hardship waiver" stats but this is not it.. Between reading posts about Clark, winfree, and now Price and Scarp, im getting all confused.. Going to step away from computer now and recollect my thoughts.. I said good day.

He deserves an extra year...he missed so much time to injury.
One has to respect his heart and sticking with it while going through much pain, I am very proud he came to Pitt and will be forever a great Alumnus! What a terrific example of what is to be admired in this life! I hope the NCAA grants his requests! Pitt's Price Is So Right & Good Fortune Always In Life!

Glad I could help. Have a great day and Hail to Pitt!!
I am just glad I read the discussion and thank you all for educating me on a subject I used to follow but no longer do, I hope Dokish and others here are right!

Additionally, I hope many Pitt Players adopt the tenacity of how Revis, Donald, and Boyd prepare for Games by studying their personal practicing techniques and film before every game. They all show what it means to be a Pitt Player Alumnus in NCAA and NFL!

Price never give up just like Narduzzi has taught the Panthers this year! I know Pitt has had many Mediocre Teams during its Musical Coaching Chairs Era, but this Coach Pat & Staff want to go to the next level and guys above with names to play this tough game are just great to watch at Pitt!

Totally agree. The kid has some tenacity that will serve him well in life. His road has been a rough one, but he stuck it out and we should all be very proud of him.

San Diego State had two kids currently on its defense who were granted a sixth season by the NCAA. It's not crazy to think both can get them for Pitt.

Yes, this is only his third year of playing college football. You get four years of time on the field.

I really see no way at all Price gets denied. He legitimately wasn't on the field for most of his career. If a kid gets a real 4 year eligibility window, Price has not met that yet and will be allowed to return next year I believe.

He plays harder than any one on the current active roster not named Tyler or Jordan.

I posted prior to the season that he very likely could be an All-ACC selection at the end of the year, if he could just stay healthy. Gotta think he is currently on the short list for his position. I just knew this kid had the skills and the heart to be pretty special. Reminds me a bit like Harrison coming off of the edge. He could be a very solid OLB at the next level. But, boy would it help the team if he could play another year.
