Once again, Pitt involved in FBS Records! It caught the attention of the Nation but won it! Listening to the MSU Game on the Radio Stream and sad to say, MSU Defense looked worse than Pitt in that game. A message that has caught Dantonio and Narduzzi eyes I am sure even if they no longer coach together????
I love the Pitt Coaches & Players Comments on being angry, shows moxie in the face of a challenge even if it was a win. It was the opposite of Wannstedt's Doppelganger* Ugly Win of 0-3, but on Offense is how I described it? I could not wait for that game to end and unfortunately this one too, just me, others can disagree. Pitt Offense Players had a Great Time and Pitt Defense Players just got angry!
What should be noticed is how Bama's Defense has not given up a TD for over a month. How Clemson, Ohio State, USC, Wisconsin won on Defense against pretty Good Programs and Michigan came up short by not stopping a 4th and 1 Play? As I see it, Coach Pat & Staff are on the Right Paths that the Goal at Pitt is building a Great Hard Hitting Defense First and Foremost from his Quotes all year long. This was not the case of Pitt under Harris, Graham & Chryst and Wannstedt did some of it with inconsistent Defenses. Although I do note that Coach Pat's Defense was Consistent all year long too, by being bad, but failure teaches one to learn! In time, this will change and winning 8 games this way has not been seen mush anywhere.
It is ironic, Chryst went back to Wisconsin known as a OC Genie and ignoring Defense and Special Teams at Pitt, but Barry Alvarez always made sure his Wisky Teams had Great Defense and Special Teams. The Penn State Wisconsin Match Up should be fun to watch on Saturday?
Versus how Pitt's Pat Narduzzi was brought to Pitt known for his Defensive Genius.Yet, all he has done was Break Pitt All Time Offensive Records with OC Canada? All I can say is once Coach Pat does build his Defense and that did not happen as much this year like last year, Watch out, Pitt will join the Elite Teams that win with Defense too!
*Wannstedt's Doppelganger*-For some of the PSU Cult that lurk on the Lair. A Doppelganger, also written "Doppelgaenger" or "Doubleganger", is quite simply a double. It can be a ghost or physical apparition, but it is usually a source of psychological anxiety for the person who sees it. The word comes from the German Doppelgänger, literally meaning "double-goer," and has found widespread use in popular culture. I know a few of those PSU Cultists thought it might be "Dumb Mule" like "Coaly the Mule", the First Mascot of Penn State. These remarks does not apply to regular Great PSU Alumni that post here, I might add! Congratulations to such PSU Alumni & Fans that won the Big Ten East, it makes the Pitt even prouder!
I posted with some Red Fonts to show how the Attitude of Pitt Players have changed Pitt since Coach Pat & Staff arrived here. The Player's remarks were a great thing to see in winning by being upset. The Pitt Player's are not satisfied at all and can't wait to do better. Yes, it was a HISTORIC RECORD WIN, but few were happy with it, someday they will laugh about it, at Alumni Dinners, but not Today! I am so pleased to see this kind of Attitude from Players and Coaches even with a big win the Player's know it could have been a big loss!
One added point, credit Cuse Coach Babers, Staff and Players not giving up too. Boy, they are going to be tough in the coming years too! The Offensive Game Plans were Divine Executions but the Defense Reactions were Defined as just Executions!
Excerpts:
His face never lit up, like it sometimes does when Pat Narduzzi is in a good mood. After the game, the Pitt coach's anger was real, and he threatened to “go beserk” if video review showed his defense didn't play hard enough. When he got home last night, he might have needed an antacid to calm the “sick” feeling that washed over him after the epic — sometimes comical — struggle Saturday in front of 34,049 people at Heinz Field...................“We've got to get back to ground zero,” he said. “Like I tell our players, every week there are going to be ups and downs. We didn't plan to have that many downs. I've never been in a game like that, and I don't want to be in a game like that again. “Half of me is jumping for joy for what our offense did out there today. The other half makes me sick.”.................Matt Galambos, whose unit was on the field for 106 Syracuse snaps that produced 668 yards and nine touchdowns, doesn't blame his coach. “A lot of guys like myself are angry about it,” he said. “Sixty-one points is unacceptable.” What happened? A small part of the blame can be traced to Pitt's quick-strike offense that scored 11 touchdowns and the most points by a Panthers team since a 76-0 victory against Temple in 1977. Six of Pitt's scoring drives lasted one, two or three snaps. “I'm not going to complain about the offense scoring in 11 seconds,” defensive end Ejuan Price said. “The tempo got to us at one point in the game.”...“There are no excuses,” Narduzzi said............“I'm happy for Dane on that play,” Narduzzi said, “but we have to make some more.” The good news is that Pitt's offense continues to roll. It beefed up its record-setting point total to 508, an average of 41.8. The 644 yards was Pitt's most in a game in 21 years............ “Nah,” said Conner when asked if this was a victory to celebrate. “I don't know what everybody else is doing. I'm not celebrating. I'm happy we won. We have to get better.”......Nate Peterman, “Nobody knew I had that in me,” he said. Yet he was far from pleased with his overall effort. “I still think we can do better,” he said. “I left some incompletions out there where I could keep us on the field.” In the end, players tried to paint the victory for what it was: an ACC victory that could vault Pitt into national prominence or, at least, an attractive bowl game. “It's a great feeling, no matter what it looked like,” said Price, one of 19 seniors who were honored with their parents before the game. “Even though the defense was bleeding today, it feels to go out on top.”
