At first glance this ranking seemed skewed toward more modern times to me. After a closer look at the basis of the rankings sure enough the rankings are from 1936 (AP's first year ) until the present. I have no problem with Pitt's ranking under those circumstances, but as somewhat of a purist I will note that Pitt had a very strong history in football prior to 1936 and would receive a significantly higher ranking as a program if the entire history of college football were included , IMO.
