PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team unveiled retro themed singlets Thursday afternoon for its ACC dual versus Virginia Friday, Feb. 16 in the Petersen Events Center.

“We are definitely looking forward to the February 16 dual,” said first-year head coach Keith Gavin. “We don’t always get the opportunity to compete in the Petersen Events Center, so we are trying to make the most of it. The retro singlets look great and we’re looking forward to having all of our alumni back for this great event.”

The Panthers host the Cavaliers at 7 p.m. in the Petersen Events Center, wrestling there for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Pitt competed in the Petersen Events Center twice that season, hosting the 2015 ACC Championship and facing Penn State Nov. 21, 2014.

Pitt’s retro singlets resemble the style worn during the ages of Pat Santoro, the Panthers’ lone four-time All-American. The all blue singlet features yellow piping around the legs with the Cathedral of Learning and Victory Lights on the back.

In addition to the retro themed singlets, Pitt will have numerous promotions going on for the dual.

Giveaways include retro themed “2 Takedown” foam fingers to the first 2,000 fans and retro colored #pinzburgh t-shirts to the first 500 students.

February 16 will also serve as Alumni Night for the wrestling program. Alumni interested in attending should RSVP to the Panther Club by Feb. 13 by calling 412-648-8889 or by emailing Sam Clancy at sclancy@athletics.pitt.edu. Those in attendance will be recognized on the mat during intermission before the team honors the late Rande Stottlemyer.

Prior to the dual getting underway, Pitt’s four senior wrestlers, Dom Forys, Nathan Russell, Ryan Solomon and Nick Zanetta will be recognized for Senior Night.

To purchase tickets, call the Panthers Ticket Office at 800-648-7488 or buy online by clicking here.

Nice looking. I would like to see some with the old gold from the sixties.

Those singlets are really nice! I'd buy one for my 10 yr old, if they sold them any where.

Pitt really misses the boat, on capitalizing with youth wrestlers. You can find all of the top programs gear and even WVU gear, for your kids, but Pitt stuff is non existent

I agree. My boys are always asking about Pitt wrestling gear - especially a singlet.

We won 4 straight conference championships & didn’t produce a single t-shirt to sell to the public. Let’s just say we haven’t really killed it on the marketing/merchandising front.

Unbelievable, really.
