They lost to Houston yesterday evening 4-3. In the top of the 7th Pitt got the tying and go ahead runners on, and then hit into a game ending triple play.

You can't really tell for sure, but it looks like there is no way the first baseman stayed on the base until she caught the ball.

Dropped 2 to bc yesterday. Had a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 7th and gave up a 3 run bomb. Lost in extras.
I actually had some hope for this coach. HOF player; pitcher; successful albeit in the Ivy League. But, two years in and there has been very little, if any, improvement in the program. Losing 7-1 to Robert Morris is an embarassment.
Worse yet, she hasn’t recruited a decent pitcher. Pitt is seldom if ever going to sign a top HS pitcher who everyone is after. But, Holly had the ability to find good pitchers who weren’t that highly recruited. This coach seems lacking in that area.

It would be nice to think that this is the day our two freshman pitchers came of age. But, considering their ERAs before today, it’s hard to think that. But, we will see next season, if both stay.

Pitt forces Penn State into using an unheard of 4th pitcher & we’re still at two outs in the top of the 5th.
PSU’s fourth pitcher enters and immediately proceeds to walk the first batter faced on 4 straight pitches.
PSU reinserts their starter because the fourth pitcher of theirs reloaded the bases. Never seen anything like it.

So Pitt played first place and 11th ranked Virginia Tech this weekend. VT was riding a 17 game winning streak. Thursday through Saturday because of the holiday on Sunday. And then with the crappy forecast for tomorrow they ended up playing a doubleheader today.
Pitt won last night 7-6 in 9 innings. Tech must have been pissed, because they came back and won the first game today in a close 21-0 score. And then Pitt came back and won the second game today 6-3.
Did anyone have Pitt winning two of three from the 11th ranked team in the country on their bingo card this week?

Clinched a spot in the acc tourney for the first time in 7 years
Allred recruited two frosh pitchers from small schools in Ohio and Kentucky.
Both took their lumps until the final third of the season. Bekah Duck has continued to take her lumps, but Gwen Sparks has improved greatly in the final third of the year. She pitched a complete game against Louisville to improve her record to 7-6. The season statistics on the Pitt site are impossible to read (deliberately?) but from following the games it seems to me that she has been very good in recent weeks. She still doesn’t strike out many batters, but she definitely has improved.
Allred did awful in the transfer portal with pitchers. One has an ERA of almost 11 and the second basically hasn’t pitched in conference games. If she can get a decent pitcher in the portal and another freshman like Sparks, they should be better next year. They hit pretty well against all but high quality pitchers.
