I think our alottment is only 7K but that's a great start. Hopefully they put together some bus transportation (at a reasonable price, not some jacked up rate from PrimeSport) and get more people to attend. I think if you eliminated the anxiety some people have of driving into NYC (and finding parking) you'd get more people to attend.

I'm 3 of those 3500+

Disappointed I can't go! Only chance I had of going was if we made it to the Russell Athletic Bowl since we have some family in Orlando to bunker down with for a few nights. We already saw them play at OK State this year so I guess I should take what I can get.

It's nice to see that we're really getting better on traveling. How cool would it be if we get 10-15K Panther fans up there for the game?

First off, its still early and ticket sales steadily decline as the days go by. Not sure how 3500 in Day 1 compares to last year. My sense is its pretty good.

Second, I dont think Pitt is "getting better at traveling." Its just that our bowl games have been so dreadul. Birmingham 3 times, Fort Worth on a weekday afternoon in January, Detroit, Charlotte, and Phoenix on Dec 26.

The only good traveling opportunity was the Larry Fitz Charlotte game vs UVa but Pitt fans were demoralized after losing the BE championship game to Miami and that season was generally disappointing. I mean when you lose to WVU and Miami to end your season that saw you ranked #9 in September, that's pretty disappointing.

Read Paul Zeiss' article in the PG.
He provides a good recap of Pitt fans support of the team in recent bowls.
You doubt have voice to beotch unless you buy tickets and go to NYC.
HAIL TO PITT.

Hey, year one under a new administration and we bring 10K to a Tier 2 bowl. Granted, it was in Maryland, but I think there is a lot more support now and change is coming with the old faces such as Smily gone. I think it's great that we've gotten two close bowl games in a row because it's allowed the fans to come out in full force, and we can use that as momentum for the next few bowls.

I also wasn't just walking about bowl games. The traveling parties for away games have been improved as well. The OSU game had way more people there than the Iowa game just the year before. Hopefully things continue to improve going forward.

Everyone in my section is going and alot of new bowl game travelers too. We will sell out our allotment. Love New York. Easy trip. Hail to pitt

It looks like last year Pitt sold 3,000 tix in 24 hours and announced Pitt had sold out its allotment the Friday after the Sunday bowl announcement. So, this seems like a comparable pace which would be good news for our turnout.

It will certainly be a jacked up rate because it isn't really worth it for those companies to do the trip cheaply. Unless Pitt wants to do much of the leg work, which they don't.

Obviously this is an easy trip without a package deal. Either way it will be a blast. What a fun team to watch.

No, it has far more to do with the bowls being within driving distance.
If there was a true culture change, we wouldn't have had all these stadium and attendance threads spring up after Pitt drew 35k to each of their final two home games.

Geography and fan base size are not in Pitts favor on this.

This should be a win for Philly and eastern PA fans. Quick train ride north. Day trip very doable.

There is a VERY strong PITT presence in and around New York! The Big East Tourney always had a huge turnout. We will easily sell out our initial ticket allotment and the stadium will be rockin'. I got my 6 from Pitt at section 230. No place better for the holidays. See you there. It will be a complete sell out!

Exactly the BE tournament every year showed Pitt to have a strong NY presence... if sales on day one matched last year I'm thinking Pitt will have a nice showing again

I agree, but both trips to Charlotte came after much was expected of the team in those respective seasons. Especially 2009, when a BCS bowl seemed almost certain, to have to settle for the 3rd place bowl was very anti-climatic (remember WVU finished second and went to the Gator bowl in the magical 10 win season that the Wanny fans always like to cling to)
