Are the Penn State fans being told to behave, because they will likely be the issue.

Here is a letter from the respective top guys at each institution:

Pitt and Penn State: Reigniting the Contest

September 7, 2016
By Patrick D. Gallagher and Eric J. Barron

Sixteen years in the making. Two teams. One age-old competition.

The wait is finally over.

Our football teams will take Heinz Field on Saturday (Sept. 10) to face off for the first time in more than a decade. The stakes are higher than ever, as the hype surrounding this historic series has gained momentum throughout the entire Commonwealth.

On game day, we hope to represent the finest qualities of Pitt, Penn State and all of Pennsylvania.

A vibrant energy surrounds this matchup, and fans have shown a tremendous anticipation for its resurrection. We are excited to share this moment with you. We are proud to say we have two of the most passionate and dedicated fan bases in this country, and we hope this game produces positive memories for the thousands of students, alumni and friends who attend.

Over the years, both institutions have partnered on many important efforts on behalf of the Commonwealth and its people. During this current four-year football series, we’re glad to again work together. As host of this game, the University of Pittsburgh is both honored and committed to promoting an environment at Heinz Field that will showcase the very best of college football and our students. As the guest, Penn State plans to provide a spirited contest, setting the stage for a great four-year run.

The ESPN broadcast is an opportunity to provide an outstanding reflection of the passion Pennsylvania has for college football and, specifically, the Pitt-Penn State series. Good sportsmanship is key to any successful athletic contest and knowing that our fans are some of the best in the world, we expect no less.

Combined, Pitt and Penn State boast nearly 200 first-team All-Americans, 47 College Football Hall of Famers and 14 Pro Football Hall of Famers—and more honorees are surely on the way.

Consider this: The last time these two teams faced off was in 2000, when most members of this year’s freshman classes were just 2 years old. This is history in the making.

Let’s showcase the best versions of ourselves to help support our respective teams. We look to everyone to make wise choices and enjoy the game responsibly.

Join us, in person or via broadcast Saturday, as we kick off the next chapter in our programs’ shared history. Be loud, be respectful, and be a good sport.

And may the best team win!
A MESSAGE FROM CHANCELLOR GALLAGHER AND PRESIDENT BARRON

Hail to Pitt!

If the Nits really gave a damn, their Administration would ink an extension to the four-game series this weekend.

But will they?

No.

Just more smoke 'n mirrors.

Pitt and Penn State: Reigniting the Contest

September 7, 2016
By Patrick D. Gallagher and Eric J. Barron

This is signed by Barron, but I only see it posted on Pitt websites and emailed to Pitt accounts.

I'm afraid Pitt fans just may upset Penn State's delicate sensitivities to their idolization of their defamed, dead hero. And guess what, they probably should. Their fans are certainly not the "best in the world." Quite the opposite, the exactly opposite.

As I said in my other post, Gallagher shouldn't stoop to legitimize what Baron considers the best version of Penn State. This is the guy that was publicly appalled that Penn State was treated so unfairly by the media and is overseeing the celebration of Joe Paterno.

I hear you. I suspect the letter was just intended to help defray possible problems that may or may not happen during the day. Cannot say I am too excited about the return trip up there next year--but I will be there like I have been every time they have played since 1980. Really hoping for a major blow out! Hail to Pitt!

I hope for a safe and healthy afternoon for all. I don't think you will get many problems with Penn State fans. We have always been respectful of opposing fans. Always. It is part of having honor with our success.

Really? Would that include your respectful fans who took the goal posts down and ran through the Pitt Band [as well as throwing wooden folding chairs at band members] at your house in 1982? Apparently you have not seen the YouTube video of your fans being respectful to visiting Buckeye fans? LOL...yeah, your fans and respectful/honor are hardly words that should ever be used together. Enjoy your visit to Pittsburgh...I hope you return with some severe proverbial wounds from what you witness on the football field. Hail to Pitt!

I know that is exactly what was intended, and I think a different letter should have been sent, but I think they are in near placation mode, and they shouldn't be.

I've seen Pitt in Beaver a few times before, as well as some other games, but personally, I will never return to State College. I literally won't spend a dime at that school, and I certainly won't subject myself to that environment. I know you have quite a streak going, so that is no slight, but you couldn't pay me enough to attend a game there. I barely have the stomach to attend Saturday.

That is a straight flat out lie. Been to games in State College and friends of mine who are not white were taunted with racial slurs. So again, flat out lie.

You've got to be kidding. You are seriously like cult members.

Isn't it about time you drop the honor crap. Shame would be a much better word to use.

LOL - throwing urine on opposing fans, throwing objects at other fans, attacking opposing fans does not constitute with what u said.

Shame and humility would be in order for you guys. Remember, you're the visitors and you need to curb your animalistic, perverted instincts and show some respect to our city and the Pitt fans. I, for one, will try and ignore you because you're not worth acknowledging. But if you try and pretend to be respectful while being a big mouth, I'm sure other Pitt fans won't be so restrained and may pop you one in the mouth. You're all pretty much a bunch of pussies, just like your former coaches Paterno and Sandusky.

I recall a video of some OSU fans getting pelted at a PSU Frat party as they walked by and the OSU band not returning to State College because of being hit by urine filled balloons.
You guys have an odd definition of "honor".
But then again, there is a funny sense of justice up your way too.

Hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears.
My take is this. I am an old timer who hates Ped State as much or more than anybody. The sight of those all white practice unis on the same field as my Panthers automatically raises me to a raging boil.

That being said, with my anticipation at a peak, I intend to watch this game with no thought of harassing or demeaning any opposing fan.

It will be the game and not the Ped fans that will have my attention.

This is just as long as they don't F**K with me first.

Just worry about what you do. Try and do the right thing...

BUT

If a loud mouth drunken nitter gets in your face, then the hell with being civil! Show them how fast you can get them from Row FF to Row A....

As I said in another thread, I find it quite bizarre that that our state university would officially honor an individual who was unceremoniously fired under a cloud of circumstances that were waaay less than honorable.

Maybe we can look forward to "Jerry Sandusky Appreciation Day" in the future?

This is a game that's all it is

Pitt says were irrelevant nationally, maybe but so are you.

This is a game of two mediocre teams.

We're not close to beating osu, Michigan or Michigan state

Your not going to compete with Miami North Carolina, fsu, Clemson
