I say he is throwing shade at both programs, and I do consider this bad publicity.

Pitt will have national eyes on them again when they play ND. In the words of Lou Brown from Major League maybe we can give Herbie a big poop burger to eat.

The folks in Austin can't get much solace from results this weekend. Towson knocked off Villanova. Why would that be significant? Well, Villanova had beaten Temple . . . who just beat Maryland . . . who had beaten . . . TEXAS.

Oh, by the way, Albany plays Towson on October 20.

and if you give a mouse a cookie.....

Difference is Texas manages to shit the bed with a much more highly rated group of recruits year in and year out.

Texas has spent way more money for their record.
I haven’t checked but does Texas have any wins in the last two years as good as Clemson, Ped State or Miami?
Herbstreit is a big 10 shill - no credibility - but the bottom line his intent was to demean Texas by comparing them to Pitt.
He has set Pitt as the barometer for mediocrity - thanks - I think?

Herbie is a Cincinnati fan going to his childhood...he can't rip the Pirates because the Reds blow. He can't rip the Steelers because the Bengals swallow (at least historically) he can't rip the Penguins because Cincinnati doesn't have 3 pro teams.
So he takes the easy way out (most cowards do) and rips into Pitt when he has USC and Texas...two blue bloods...right before his eyes.
Good to know we occupy so much of his mind....
Sparsely populated tho it may be.

Herbie is easily the most knowledgeable and credible color man in the college football broadcast business, and he isn’t a shill for anyone, not even his alma mater, the fans of which ran him out of the state of Ohio due to his criticisms of the OSU program. But I wouldn’t expect many posters on this board to understand any of that.

Why is it necessary for him to do that when he played for Ohio State? Maybe in his mind all we are is 72-0.

Herbie is a good commentator. He knows the college football game as well as anyone on a major network and despite constant charges by fans of an OSU bias, he has given them tough commentary multiple times.

Criticizing Ohio State football is a lesson in futility. What is there to complain about? I'd love to read an analysis. Herbstreet never dives into off the field stuff for more than a sentence or two. He knows cfb, but that doesn't mean he isn't full of himself or doesn't love the sound of his own voice.

Better question is why does he elect Pitt as his barometer on a weekend where Nebraska lost to Toy, Purdung to Mizwho, Northwestern to Acorn, Wisconsin to YBU, Rutgers to Synagogue, Maryland to who the f knows.

He definitely should have more aptly compared them to the Michigan program that you are so constantly fluffing on a Pitt board.

not a shill for the Big 10?
most knowledgeable?

Herbies pre season picks:
1) Best Team Alabama -(that hardly takes much "knowledge")
2) Heisman Trophy - Trace McSorley of Ped St - (Ha hahaha - shill and lack of knowledge)
3) Best Head coach non Saban - Kirby Smart ( but gives a BIG 2nd choice to James Franklin???? Shill and lack of knowledge))
4) Surprise Team - Texas ( maybe he's right - surprise how bad they are. Very knowledgable )

I see no point to continue.
Guys a BOZO

Shows how well you know me and what I post. I know it’s hard for a narrow minded homer like yourself to understand and accept that there’s a great big world out there outside of Western PA and that some of us have perspectives that go beyond that region.

I’ve hated Michigan since I was knee high. It’s a family tradition.

Now if you’ve ever heard me say it’s an excellent school in a world class college town with boundless academic and athletic resources, I have done that, because it’s true. Doesn’t mean I like em. Worst and most arrogant, irritating fan base in college sports.

Really? When PSU is our rival you are going with Michigan? I am not saying they are not bad but really worse than the cult?

There are a lot of similarities between the two programs. The biggest issue being the entitlement of the recruits & fan bases.

He was just giving the Horn fans a dose of reality. Their program is mediocre and their results are similar to ours. That has to be humbling due to the amount they spend and their tremendous resources.

I am no Herbie fan, but that is more accomplishment and success than 99.9999% of citizens in this country.
I beg to differ. But we can agree to disagree. My point was he is no cfb guru. The fact that we even care what he thinks is sad. We just got a decent win and are 1-0 in our conference. I choose to focus on that instead of some nimrod with a microphone who couldnt make a living coaching or playing so he sits around and insults other programs. He is probably the least accomplished cfb analyst on that panel by a wide margin.

Don’t have a problem w Herbie, actually think he’s a good analyst....

But he’s WAY off base here....Texas is actually UNRIVELED when it comes to screwing the pooch.
The school sits on top of billion$, it’s a great university in a great setting for a university..The fan base , access to top flight talent in numbers only others can dream about, in a FB Crazy very large state make it tops wrt putting together a very good FB team annually.

Yet it has S the bed for decades.

No Herbie, Texas is doing nearly the impossible given its resources...Pitt is not even close to Texas.

I don't know, I took it that he remembers and knows Pitt and Texas were both great programs at one time but have let their respective programs slip to mediocre. I agree Texas as a ton more resources but we've done a pretty good job of sh***ing the bed on National TV a lot for all the world to see

Sorry to disagree I think Herbstreit is the absolute worst analyst in college football he just repeats himself over and over about this coach this player he gives you the do's or don't of the game. Give me Gary Danielson any day of the week along with Brad Nessler over Chris Fowler & Herbstreit.

Nessler is the best by far IMHO...his line when Owen Schmidt from WVU ran all over the Clemson Tigers (I think it was Clemson) "like a runaway beer truck" remains my all time favorite "in game" call.

Maryland has beaten Texas the last two years! LOL I love Blue Bloods losing! It's like a consolation prize that Texas probably spends all this money, cheats and still doesn't win.

I have lived in Michigan most of my life and despite strong Pittsburgh roots, I have never lived in PA. I have no doubt I'd feel exactly the same way about PSU and its fans if I had grown up in WPA. I was also raised to despise PSU by my Pitt alum dad, but I haven;t had much exposure to their fan base.

So when he diagnoses a play and points out exactly why it worked or didn't work, which he does as accurately and as well as any experienced college football coach talking to his players in a film session, you just tune those parts out? That's only about 90% of his telecast.

Danielson is good too. Just not as good as Herbie.

But Nessler is a play by play guy. Agree he's an excellent one--but he can only tell you what's happening, not why or how it happens. That;s why he's not a color man. Herbie is without peer in the analysis department.

I very much enjoy Nessler too. I think Brock Huard and his partner are the best tandem.
