As expected aCarson Beck has signed with Miami and several sources stated that he got a 4 million dollar contract. The Canes will play Pitt this year. This is getting to be absurd. Its more than he would have made inthe NFL,

i'd love to see someone break down all the starting QBs for P4 teams and see how many starting QBs were actually recruited by the school out of high school.

I'd bet it's under 33%..

I don’t get it. Seems like a waste of money. I am not sure if I would take him over Eli?

I guess it's a good strategy if you can afford to go buy the best of what's available each year.

But talk about a commitment to not wanting to develop a young QB. You would think Pitt could recruit the position a little better if schools like Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State are just going to shop for one each offseason.

Beck didn't get a lot of help this year, as UGA was short on playmakers. They had issues on their OL too. But give Beck a clean pocket where he can get in a rhythm and he's deadly.

just a ton of misses at the qb spot. miami, ohio state and ND recruit very highly ranked high school qbs in every class and still have to rely on the portal for their starters pretty much every year.

notre dame has our boy minchey, a big time recruit in CJ Carr and flipped another recruit from clemson last recruiting class and they will still be looking for their starter next year in the portal.

In at least some of these cases, I'm sure the recruit could exceed wait they're bringing in if they let him take his lumps and gave him time to develop. But no one wants to play the long game anymore.

If these numbers are right, and I'd love to know for sure, why would a guy with questionable value to the NFL ever want to make that jump? Wouldn't it make more sense to challenge eligibility rules? Mason Rudolph made a hair over $3 million this year but was down around $1 million last year. What's he worth to a college team if he wasn't prevented from playing in college?

Would be interesting to know what the net cost is for these guys.

At Miami Cam Ward comes off the books before Beck goes on.

At Duke Malik Murphy comes off the books before Mensah goes on.

But some of these numbers that guys are supposedly going to get paid are crazy.

Does Minchey still exist?

Didn't he tear his ACL? Is he gonna be healthy for the early season games?

Beck was projected by some to be the first pick in the draft heading into the season.

ESPN reported his draft grade feedback he got was still somewhere between a 1st and 3rd rounder. And that’s with the injury and NFL combine.

He’s probably a top 5 QB going into next year. That price tag has to be close to 4 million.

UCL. He had Tommy John surgery. Seems very risky to just hand the keys over to him doesn't it?

No. Purdy had the same injury and he was fine in a couple of months.

Tommy John isn’t that big of a deal if you aren’t a pitcher

Yeah, I just remember him from this year where he didn’t really do much. I didn’t watch a lot of other college football this year for whatever reason. But whenever I saw him this year, he didn’t look that great.

And then came the season.

He’s the southern Allar. The GM that drafts him will lose his job within 3 years.

PFF gave him a pretty good grade even this year.

His INTs were up this year. But some of that was because UGA had zero weapons after losing the TE, so he was pressing.

He also ranked number 1 in the SEC in yards lost due to drops. Which is because their receivers were just really bad.

He’s not even close to Allar.
Allar is never asked to win a game. The PSU offense doesn’t go through Allar.

UGA’s offense goes through Beck.

It's a little different for Purdy than for Beck New team, new OC... Seems important for Beck to get to throw during Spring. He's no Cam Ward. So much of his game is dependent on timing.

Ewers reportedly has an offer for 6 million to jump into the portal.

His PFF grades this year are 73.5 offensive grade and 72.8 passing grade. Both are significantly below Beck’s 2024 grades

Some of you’ll are overestimating what it means to be a top tier QB in college football.

It’s an Air Raid. Air Raids aren’t known for their difficulty to pick up.

Beck has been playing in nothing but NFL offenses at UGA. Dawson’s Air Raid concepts will be the equivalent of a “See Spot Run” book for him.

I’ve watched enough of Beck to know without PFF or anyone else telling me differently that he’s erratic, inconsistent and just generally not very good. He struggled this year. Are you suggesting otherwise?

No way he goes first round if he comes out this year.

Better than having to play against The $7 Million Man.

Just say’n.

That's a pretty absurd take if you spend 5 seconds thinking about it.

Say you are a 22-year old QB and staring down a 5th round+ draft grade. You decide to challenge eligibility rules, then you have to find a lawfirm that is willing to take that on and might have the ability to win, then the time it takes for class certification, then you have to go through the entire legal process at the district, then circuit, then eventually the SCOTUS fighting against the NCAA, each member Conference, as well as many of the schools. The QB would be 30 by the time the decision is made and likely would lose.

Alston, the most important defeat the NCAA has had in courts concerning eligibility, took more than 7 years from the date it was first filed until the courts rolled back a small portion of the NCAA's restrictions.

House Vs NCAA was filed in 2020. Hubbard vs NCAA was filed in 2020. Carter vs NCAA I think was filed in 2022, but it was mostly just to bolster the other two cases. These 3 were combined for the settlement in 2024. The main reason it is being settled is because, #1 SCOTUS expressly announced that they would look favorable upon plaintiffs that challenge NCAA compensation rules. #2 the schools wanted a settlement to happen to regain some control over the wild west of NIL collectives.

Sure, there have been some other settlements and defeats in the margins, most recently JUCO eligibility, but this would be a fight against a fundamental aspect of college football that the NCAA doesn't want, the conferences don't want, and the schools don't want. It's in all of their best interests to have limited eligibility and they would fight it to the Supreme Court.

This case would be better brought in 2-3 years by a 25-year old, undrafted QB looking to challenge the NCAA's eligibility requirements for his loss in NIL and direct school compensation opportunities.

well despite him not being the most attractive guy in the world, he seems to be doing ok in the " pulling wool" dept.
