Tons of respect for Pitt. This program qualifies as a blue blood, for all of the celebrated players that have worn the uniform.

I'm a staunch UCF fan, but I tip my hat to the Pitt tradition. The university has had so many Hall of Famers, that its rich history has assured its place in the pantheon of college football.

For reasons above, I selected this game as a road trip. Of course, I hope we win, but win or lose, I'll always remember traveling to play such a storied program.

Thanks dawg! Have a great trip and congrats on your recent success. Best of luck this season (except against the panthers)!

I hope you enjoy your trip. I travel to Orlando/Kissimmee 2-3 times a year on average.

Thanks! And a question here - is it pretty much required to sample a Primanti Bros sandwich when visiting the Burgh?

If you do, go to the original location not too far from the stadium. The rest of them are franchises and not nearly as good. If you’re in the mood for a good steak Mortons is your best bet.

May I recommend the true sandwich (and beer) champion of the Burgh... Fatheads Saloon on Carson Street on the South Side. About 20 min from the North Side but a better bet vs the corporate bars by the stadium.

Get just about any of their Headwiches. Can't go wrong. Great burgers and wings too. Their craft beers are solid as well.

There's also a Primantis across from Fatheads on Carson, if it's too crowded (and it often is). He was right that the ones in the suburbs aren't as authentic, more like Applebees... but the one on the South Side (or in Oakland) is pretty close to the original.

Headwiches...jotting that one down. And no 'burb Primantis. Got it. Thanks for the tip. What's the best local craft beer now?

Southern Tier on North Shore and VooDoo in Homestead are two of my favorites.

Welcome to the greatest football town in the country, home to 9 national champions and 6 times SB champs. Football runs this town H2P

Grist House Brewery is hard to beat. About 10-15 minutes from Heinz Field. They'll have a food truck with good eats.
Dancing Gnome if you like very hop forward IPAs...check out Hitchhiker Brewing if you go to Gnome...they're right down the road and worth the stop. These places are about 20-25 minutes from Heinz.
Brew Gentlemen in Braddock recently placed top 5 in a couple national double blind tastings for one of their IPAs and DIPAs. They're a bit out of the way but may be worth a stop.
If you're a Hefeweizen fan, I think the Hofbrau house makes one of the best and it's always fresh. Great place to hit on the South Side in addition to Fat Heads (a must go to place when in the Burg)

I've been to my share of crafty places in the US and Pittsburgh is right up there IMO. Many many good choices in addition to the above.

Here's a good resource for the beer scene: https://www.discovertheburgh.com/pittsburgh-craft-beer/

Enjoy your time in Pittsburgh, but don't be surprised if the temps dip down to the low 50s or even in the 40s at night.

Check the 7 day forecast before leaving Gainesville.:)

Visit Tequila Cowboy on the Northshore if you get a chance.

3 fun bars under one roof.
Little Red Corvette
Cowboy Country Western Bar Live Music
Wanna B's

Plus a mechanical bull to ride which provides some visitors a chance to see Pittsburgh great medical centers.

In addition try to tour the campus and also the many food options of Pittsburgh, we are now known as a foodie destination as well. People from the south are pleasantly surprised with the city atmosphere and the many interesting things to do, ands it rich history and impact to the nations founding and success. Go to Heinz history center if you have time.

Man, I hope so! I live in Knoxville, TN and this past week or two, it's topped 90 everyday! I love those cool temps!

That all sounds great! If I have time, I'd like to see Carnegie Mellon's museum of natural history, visit the Cathedral of Learning, take the Washington Incline and all that Yinzer stuff. Maybe even take in a game!

Man, great info!

So much beer, so little time!
The Northshore of Pittsburgh and Southside are loaded with greats bars, restaurants, and fun people.
Mrs Buffett and I live 300 miles away and come in for the home games so its like a out of towner visit each time we arrive in Pittsburgh.

So many bars and so little time!

"it's five o'clock somewhere"
Signed: Mr Buffett

These look very worthwhile! I'll even buy first round for the first Pitt fans I meet! I'll be in the UCF Knights cap!

Might as well recommend Applebee’s

Morton's always works!
To each his own, but when i travel to a new city, I try to make sure to hit the best of the local stuff, and not a chain that i can eat at 10 minutes from my own home. Morton's, Capital Grill, Hyde Park, Ruth's Chris, etc are all great food, but you can get it wherever you live.

I don't live in Pittsburgh but most of my extended family does and I go there annually. I would say the original Primantis in the Strip District is a must for an out of towner. As others have said don;t go to one of the franchised outposts, the original location is where it's at. I'd defer to the locals on the board as far as the best Burgh-based bars and restaurants these days--I used to like Lidia's on the Strip a lot but haven't been there in years--but I would strongly recommend taking the Duquesne Incline up to Mt. Washington just before sunset and having a beer or 3 at one of the places with a view up there--the Grandview Saloon was a favorite spot for me (I haven;t been there in several years). The view of the city below at night is spectacular and will probably your most memorable takeaway from your visit. Pamela's in the Strip is an excellent breakfast joint.

As other's have mentioned, Fathead's on the South Side as well-excellent wings there.

FYI - After 18 years in business in Pittsburgh, Lidia's is closing in September.

Pretty good run for a trendy-type restaurant. Still a quality place or no?

I went to her original Manhattan place 15 years or so ago. It was good but not great IMO.

The Lair community is really stepping up...great job everybody

Couple other random items:

Lotsa love for Pamela's for breakfast but I think Kelly O's in the Strip is tough to beat. Worthy of a special trip and a nice way to start the day. Sit at the counter if your party isn't too large. Can walk the Strip (weather permitting) after breakfast and get a good feel for the local scene. And East End Brewing opens at 10 AM on Saturdays! :) Try Pahtly Cloudy if on tap...delicious. https://kellyos.com/

Definitely visit campus and take in the Cathedral of Learning, Heinz Chapel, etc.. While on campus, grab a drink at Spirits and Tales at the top of the Oaklander Hotel. Great views, usually have some fine local craft beers and they generally make great cocktails (especially Manhattans) https://www.spiritsandtales.com/

Agree the Cathedral is a must inside and out, and to get some real Pitt football tradition, the Varsity Walk between the Cathedral and Heinz Chapel is very cool. I have a cousin memorialized on the Walk......
