Two years removed from the coaching carousel and I would argue Pitt is in the best position currently and for the future.

I wouldn't have guessed this when the Stallings debacle was coming to an end.

What say you all?

Pitt is certainly in a better position than TCU and should be going forward.

UConn has been recruiting pretty well though and Hurley is a good coach so they’ll probably get back to being pretty good again.

But I’d rather have Capel than Hurley just for the fact that Hurley is so unlikable and I just don’t know if that would work in a city in like Pittsburgh.

TCU is losing 50% of their scoring this season to graduation, has lost most of its good recruiters to other programs and the head coach lacks in that area.

UConn’s coach is a lunatic but will always have talent.

You folks crack me up.

Were fine. They’re fine. Hurley is “unlikable” because he didn’t pick us. I understand that feeling, but that’s not a reason to base judgement on. There will be no way to know which hire was better for a 2-3 years, so saying anything definitively now is just misguided. I’ve spent time with both Bob Sr. and Dan and, minus that NY bravado, they absolutely are a family that would’ve been beloved in Western PA. High, high character family. I stand by my assertion that he’d be the most popular coach, college or pro, in town had he picked Pitt.

Were in a great spot with Capel and brighter days are ahead. Enjoy the journey and quit worrying about the road not taken.

Totally agree. Who cares about what tcu and conn are doing and let's remember how many people thought nardo was going to be such a better coach and recruiter than Jimmy franks

Hurley helped get UConn back into the Big East. If Capel can do that, then I'd say Capel is as good, but until then, Hurley gets the clear win.

No he's not unlikable because he didn't pick Pitt.
He's unlikeable because of his face.

Not sure if anyone watched the TCU debacle against Texas Tech tonight, but it looks like they’ve basically quit on Dixon. I had them pegged as a bubble type team again this year, but they have imploded.

If Capel is 6-12 in the ACC in his fourth year at Pitt(he won’t be), which Dixon is looking to be, this town will be calling for Capel’s head on a stick.

TCU has gotten appreciably worse in the last two years. They lose nearly 50% of their scoring too after this season. Could be worse next season. Too bad.

I think there is something to be said for a coach's fit with a conference. With Capel's background, he is a perfect fit for the ACC. Hurley's background would not have been as good a fit.

The fanbase has already given up on Dixon. His recent recruiting has been a mess and they have lost 8 of 9 games.

He probably has one more season to save what's left of his career.

Dixon is doing worse than I thought he'd do there.

Just because jimmy has outsourced everything except cheerleading and recruiting does not make him a better coach than anyone.....he knows his limitations

Hurley helped get UConn back into the Big East.

This isn't true and I think it was a really bad move by UConn to give up on football and possible admission to the ACC one day. American Athletic Conference basketball isnt even that big of a step down to the Big East. Houston, Cincy, Temple, Wichita, Memphis are all good programs and SMU ans UCF have their moments.

UConn could have played Nova, Prob, Gtown, SJU, and SHU every year in the OOC if they wanted and persuaded the American to play the tournament at MSG the week before the Big East every year. With how widespread the American is, MSG is probably the best place for that tournament anyway.

He is who he is. A very mediocre coach. Herb Sendek type now.

To the extent his recruiting hasn't been top notch, I agree. On Xs and Os coaching--I don't necessarily agree; although the NCAA's freedom of movement officiating emphasis of the last few years has probably hurt him there as well.

This recent drop seems more related to the poor recruiting aftermath of his former TCU assistant getting caught cheating at recruiting than any significant Xs and Os deficiency.

Not surprised.
I’d be surprised to see him retire. He will end up somewhere. I wonder what type of job he would land.

I’m surprised we are even having this conversation. Wow.

Seems like Jamie only had real sustained success recruiting NYC. Wonder how he’d do at a Big East school?

I wonder if he'd consider a place like SHU or Providence if they lose their coaches. Willard better cash in this year.

Gotta have the horses no matter where you work, and what X and Os you teach. It’s about the players always. His last ten years has proven that.

Tech 88, TCU 42

It's hard to accomplish that much of a quit-job.

TCU has three Big 12 games remaining that they may be able to win. They still play, Baylor, WVU, Kansas and Oklahoma. They are 13-11, 4-7. It's going to get uglier.

Keith Dambrot is 61 and you would think would retire at Duquesne. But he hasn't made a lot of money in his career. He wont be a candidate for a high level job but lets say some upper level A10 or mid-tier American Athletic program offers him $500K more and he takes it, would Jamie take the Duquesne job?
