Pitt, UConn and TCU

Keith Dambrot is 61 and you would think would retire at Duquesne. But he hasn't made a lot of money in his career. He wont be a candidate for a high level job but lets say some upper level A10 or mid-tier American Athletic program offers him $500K more and he takes it, would Jamie take the Duquesne job?
No. No. No.

Not sure if an American or another A10 job would really sway him - though it might get him a raise at Duquesne...which he probably has earned regardless. With Dambrot's preexisting family connections to Duquesne and their new arena opening up next year, I think he's in a pretty good spot there.

I'd say no. Dambrot's father played at Duquesne. He's getting paid, I think, $1-million now. That's a lot of money in Pittsburgh. I have talked with him and he really does seem invested in making Duquesne relevant, and he's doing a good job. I talked again with him last night after the Dapper Dan dinner and he, at least from what I take from our conversations, is all-in for the Dukes.

I don't think Jamie would ever go to Duquesne. I don't think his ego would allow that.

Probably but everyone has a price.

Dixon will probably land at a mid major school next. I'm not sure if a Big East school would hire, but it could be possible. These hires nowadays are about connections more than anything....i.e. Stallings to Pitt.

One person to look out for is former Pitt asst David Cox. He's the head coach now at Rhode Island. They're doing great.

I think he took over for Hurley. He's kept the program winning.

Just couldn’t do it at other places including St. John’s
True. I had a convo with a former four year starter, and he laughed when I suggested slice was a great recruiter. He said the team members at the time were Pitts best recruiters.

I stand corrected

Sliced helped to land Chris Taft and Levance Fields. That was pretty much it, unless one includes Tyrone Haughton. That one was all Slice. Even Dixon didn't want him.

Hurley helped get UConn back into the Big East. If Capel can do that, then I'd say Capel is as good, but until then, Hurley gets the clear win.
If you aren't joking,Why would we want to be back in a second rate big east? I'd rather build a program like Capel is doing rather than worry about the conference were in.

No chance for Duquesne. Maybe a program in the Big East or California.

Until Jeff Capel gets the ACCN, or at least all Pitt games on Comcast, Hurley will always be superior.

I know at least one of these posts is sarcasm. I really HOPE they both are. If not . . . . . . .

I could see Dixon going to the American and resurrecting a dormant program there. The American is a league of quality recycled coaches.

Don't see a ton of AAC schools because of his footprint except maybe SMU or Houston. And I don't see Houston being that interested.

Could maybe see him going to Dayton if Archie Miller leaves, or URI if their coach moves on, but nothing else in the A-10 based on his footprint and ego.

Big East - Villanova, SHU, Georgetown, St. John's only.

Other than that, maybe a California or Nevada school? San Diego State? Fresno? UNLV?

He's probably got at least a few more years since he's made the tournament at TCU and is their golden boy. But the flirting with UCLA is certainly over.

Point of clarification: Archie Miller is presently the HC of Indiana Hoosiers in the B1G. Both Dayton and URI have relatively new HC's replacing Miller and Danny Hurley, respectively. Bot programs are doing pretty well currently with the coaching changes, too.

Touche. Take Dayton off the board then. Also I agree that URI is doing well so their coach is unlikely to leave unless it's of his own accord. I was thinking he could get scooped by a P5, which would create an opening, not that he would be fired.

Washington State?

If Anthony Grant of Dayton was to get another major conference job, I'm not sure how I high on the bench is former Pitt player Ricardo Greer, but maybe he might get an opportunity at the Dayton HC spot.

Grant played at Dayton, so as well as they're doing, he's probably not looking to leave, especially for the type of P5 job that would be interested in him. Dayton is one of the best jobs out there that isn't in a top 6 conference.

I remember when it looked like Grg might end up at Duquesne. I'm not sure what happened, but I seem to remember that he got resistance from his family, who had no desire to come back to Pittsburgh. Paul Evans would have taken that job in a hot second, but they weren't interested. I'm not really a fan of Paul Evans, but considering the bums they ended up hiring during that period, could he have done any worse?

Money talks.....and he may want to try and redeem himself after failing at Florida.

Or....He may stay and try to turn Dayton into a perrenial top program like u said

Grant coached at Bama, not Florida. I wouldn't call him a total failure, he just didn't get them where they think they should be. They're still not there. Since the CM Newton, and Wimp Sanderson era ended, they've basically been the basketball equivalent to Pitt football. Decent, but never anything special.

Thanks....initially I did thought it was Bama but then I thought I was mixing him up with Avery Johnson, who replaced Grant at Bama.

Grant was an assistant at Florida, not HC.....you're right.

Bobby obviously the much better player, thinking Danny may be the better coach.
No doubt Danny is good and has done well. I prefer Bobby.
Bobby, Wojo, Dawkins or Capel in running to succeed K. Hoping it’s not Capel
Bobby 129-86 .600
Dan 182-130 .577
