Saturday game reviews from the Dodgertown classic.

First game against Toledo was in my opinion a game that Pitt should have won comfortably and they did. They should have had control of the game sooner though.

Pitching looked really good both Sam and Garrett dominated the game and I don’t think could have pitched much better. Sam was mixing up his pitches really well to earn every one of his seven strike outs. Garrett came in and his command and placement was spot on for a pitcher in relief. My complaint from the pitching would be the hit batsmen these mental errors could have been more detrimental if they continue.

Batting looked good at times. The Toledo starter had two pitches, a fastball and a curve. He basically threw the curve on the first pitch every time and would hang it. I know the old saying of don’t swing at the first pitch, but when it’s laid out it should have been picked up on sooner and capitalized on. Leblanc, Sherman, and Parry were the stars of the game batting and really stood out in how they caught on to the Toledo’s pitchers pitches. Parry’s Home Run was to left Field where down the line it was 340 feet, so my guess is the HR went 360-370 and it was a beauty of a swing. 8 batters left on base most I believe from the early innings was very frustrating to watch.

Fielding: I don’t think there were many things that stood out good or bad. I think there were a couple of errors, but I don’t remember them that well so while they were there they couldn’t have been that bad. Pitt outfielders were great at covering the outfield and making tough catches all over the outfield. This last sentence can be for both games they kind of mesh together in my head.

Something you don’t see every day department: Coach Jordano got thrown out of the game. I forget the inning, but it was late in the game I think it was the 7th or 8th inning. The Toledo player was bunting and was hit by a pitch very hard in the chest. He clearly didn’t pull back and it should have been a strike, but the ump awarded him first base. Basically the Ump said he gave him first because the player got hurt at which Jordano replied “that’s a load of shit” then the PA guy played music and we couldn’t hear the argument. Jordano went back to the dugout where he got a warning and tossed for continuing to talk.

Overall the game went well, but should have been a much less “stressful” game.
