Pitt vs VT Predictions

I think Pitt wins this one ...and fairly easily. some "experts" will be surprised by Pitt's easy victory but I expect it say 31 to 10

I think the Panthers win with our running game getting back on track and the defense playing very aggressively;

Pitt 27

VT 17

Pitt 28
VT 10

Game changing play... Whitehead pick 6. We've seen him tackle, this week he shows off his athleticism.

I went with Pitt 13-9.

FWIW, my work colleagues do not share our view. The 6 who have turned in picks so far have all picked VTech.

the first 13 posts in this thread all have Pitt winning tomorrow. Its amazing how blind and loyal CFB fans can be to their school....

Pitt is going to lose 27-17

And until they demonstrate they can run the ball you can put another 6-6 up on the board.

With the weather turning slightly more positive for the game on Saturday, I think the passing game may be a little more effective. The VT secondary is very young and inexperienced, outside of Facyson, who is a play-maker. Couple that with the potential of a freshman MLB, and the PITT running and passing games should find some room to operate. It all comes down to how aggressive the PITT OL is in trying to keep the VT DL out of the backfield. One way to offset their aggressive play is to run misdirection, which was extremely effective in ECU's game against them. Look for Boyd to take off on jet sweeps, along with Voytik to get some work in the read option.

On defense, I feel like VT is going to come out passing the ball down the field to their TEs early. Hodges is a massive target at 6'7", and has great speed and athleticism. He has been able to do some damage in the past against PITT. Motley will also test the middle of the field should a play break down. It's up to PITT to treat him "like a tailback" in the words of HCPN. Big hits on a QB will go a long way in unsettling their offense. Grigsby, Blair, Price, and Scarpinato could have a lot of fun in this game.

Prediction:

PITT: 24
VT: 17

I never predict games, and it seems like a bad omen that so many are picking Pitt to win. I think our chances are good, and for some reason, we usually play well against the Hokies. However, the weather makes this one absolutely unpredictable.

I hate to state the obvious, but in games between two relatively evenly matched teams, turnovers often decide the outcome. Given the weather, turnovers will likely be even more important in this game. So while I agree that we will be in good shape if we control their QBs runs and our OL does its job, we will still lose if the turnover margin swings heavily in their direction. And you know, Beamer is all about getting turnovers.
