With the weather turning slightly more positive for the game on Saturday, I think the passing game may be a little more effective. The VT secondary is very young and inexperienced, outside of Facyson, who is a play-maker. Couple that with the potential of a freshman MLB, and the PITT running and passing games should find some room to operate. It all comes down to how aggressive the PITT OL is in trying to keep the VT DL out of the backfield. One way to offset their aggressive play is to run misdirection, which was extremely effective in ECU's game against them. Look for Boyd to take off on jet sweeps, along with Voytik to get some work in the read option.
On defense, I feel like VT is going to come out passing the ball down the field to their TEs early. Hodges is a massive target at 6'7", and has great speed and athleticism. He has been able to do some damage in the past against PITT. Motley will also test the middle of the field should a play break down. It's up to PITT to treat him "like a tailback" in the words of HCPN. Big hits on a QB will go a long way in unsettling their offense. Grigsby, Blair, Price, and Scarpinato could have a lot of fun in this game.
Prediction:
PITT: 24
VT: 17
