the year is really good.
I'm assuming she has a
decent outside shot. We
really need players who
can hit from outside on
this team. Another big, and
I mean a legit big, is also a
need.

She can shoot the 3 but was more of a pull up, midrange shooter. Aislin Malcolm can flat out shot from anywhere. Jasmine Timmerson is very athletic and probably a defensive stopper type.
Jasmine Timmerson is a well regarded point guard in the 2023 class.
Pitt needs shooters for sure, so Malcolm and Marley will help, but the loss of Rita at center is huge, IMHO. Despite Rita’s flaws, Pitt has no one close to giving them her presence on the floor.

She is a good player. Pitt is lucky to get her. Was heading to WVU, but they did not have enough scholarships available due to the extra year granted for COVID.

I didn't realize Rita was
leaving. I agree she has
"flaws." However her loss
is as you posted, "huge."
We need a legit big, We
need one to become
available in the portal.

They really need to get an average big, which would be a considerable upgrade at the position.

Rita a barely " average"
college big....But, and
it's a a big BUT; I would
call her a below average
big in the ACC. If White
lands a typical ACC Center,
I'd be very happy. I have no
idea what is available in
the portal. He has a very
experienced team back
this coming season. A big,
even an "average" one, as
you pointed out would be
very helpful.

I mean yeah, if you are comparing her to the bigs at St. Francis and Coppin State then sure, NCAA average.
A team of NCAA average players in the ACC would get crushed.

Rita was quite a raw player when she arrived at Pitt - otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to sign her. We haven’t had a legit Center since Mercedes Walker. But Rita had made small improvements each season, IMHO.
She would have been an important player on next season’s team and with the added Covid year could have been a pretty good player the following year - again, IMHO.
Now we are in “big” trouble unless Coach White finds some magic…

improvements. However
even with those, she was
IMO still barely average.

Maybe Rita was barely average, but she was head and shoulders, so to speak, better than any center Pitt has had since Mercedes Walker in 2008.

Pitt is recruiting Eve Fiala, a 6-5 center from Indiana, PA, but she’s a 2023 recruit. And she’s being recruited by a ton of ACC and Big 10 schools - and UConn was supposedly interested…

And she certainly wasn't head and shoulders above Bubbles Anderson!
