IMO a much better performance
by the Pitt women. Only 12 TO's.
The last few games they've
done better with fewer TO's.
ND has more talent both
inside and on the perimeter.
BTW ND was 19-20 FT's
We were really good early.
Knocking down shots will
do that obviously. Strother
with 4 threes in the first
half. She finished 4-8 on her
threes, and 5-10 FG's, 50%.
When she gets open, sets
her feet and squares to
the hoop, she can hit. The
biggest take away from the
game as I saw it...far less
outta control, raggedy ass,
on the offensive end. I'd
like to see a little more of
that from Harris without
taking her game away from
her.

We continue to play like
today, and it will show a
major improvement. It's
not perfect, but today was
MUCH better overall.

Our coach has made a major mistake on who to count on.

Our “stars” are not close to being stars. They are volume shoots maquadeing as stars.

Time to move on. Identify the best of the young players and play them.

Maybe the local girl and the 2 ex WVU commits can be real stars.

Well, I hear ya, but he can
only go right now with the
players he has. Those recruits
you mentioned are probably
better than what we have now.
I do feel we have some talent.
Obviously not enough to beat
the better ACC teams. At least
today we played (for the most
part) more in control. Except
for the last few minutes we
were right there.

Glad to see Strother taking threes. Now if Everett could just start making shots at a reasonable percentage…

We missed so many shots today - but good to see them hang with a decent team…

Go Pitt.

I think she's capable, as I
do both Harris and Strother.
Strother can't create, she
has to get open first and
then they have to get the
ball to her. Our offense is
not set up that way. White
allows over dribling by
Harris, and IMO that
gets us out of good ball
control.

Harris and Everett can
create, but the D knows it
and is waiting for them.
When the D shuts their
one on one down, we don't
have the ability/know how
to adust and take advantage.
Anyway, today was far better,
and against a good opponent.

"Time to move on. Identify the best of the young players and play them."

If they don't play Harris and Everett major minutes in a game like today they may very well lose by 40 points.

Strother made four threes today. Every one of the four she got by standing at the three point line, catching a pass and shooting. She took ten shots altogether today. I missed one of them, but of the other nine, eight of them were catch and shoot. Without Harris and Everett on the court who gets her the ball? Without Harris and Everett on the court why would the opponent ever leave her open enough on the perimeter to get a catch and shoot?

Why isn't King playing many minutes, if at all?

Is she injured?

Something must be going
on with King. IMO she should
start with Ibokwe inside.
I'd have her on the high post
and also swing her low. She
can hit the eight footer.
Brown should sub for her,
and Ezeja for Ibokwe. Dunne
should not see minutes
except for mop up duty.

That’s a great question. AB is limited offensively - I think Liatu would help in that department…. And they both rebound well.

Go Pitt.
If we had women's football,
Brown would be a great LB'r.
Basketball wise, she's a bull
in a china shop. Seriously
though, she does hustle, is
tough as nails, but IMO is
not a hoopster.

Does it make any difference what you lose by?

Movepast these flawed players, “try” to develop what you can, move on to better.

Your stars are stars because they shoot a lot. Not make a lot, but shoot a lot.

Does it make any difference if you win a game by five or lose by 20?

If Pitt moved past all the "flawed players" on the roster there would be no one left to play. Seriously, do you watch them?

Her problem is that she has the game of a four but the body of a two. She isn't skilled enough to play where her size would dictate, and she can't overcome the physical limitations her size places on her where her game is best suited for.

Do these 2 shoot it all that well? Have a high assist to turnover ratio?

It was/is a mistake to rely on these 2 to be the heart of one’s team

Theydominate shots and the ball. They are not good enough.

They are the equivalent of Odukale. Yeah, sometimes it really looks like it is in there. Don’t be fooled it is not.

Defnitely need and needed better.

Who on the team shoots it better? Who on the team has a better assist to turnover ratio?

Let me help you out here. With her good shooting the last couple of games Strother now has the best three point shooting percentage on the team. Everett and Harris are second and third. If we were doing this two weeks ago Everett and Harris would have been first and second.

There are only two players on the whole team that have positive assist to turnover ratios. One is Harris. The other is 10th on the team in minutes and didn't play at all today. There isn't even anyone who barely plays who has like 6 assists and 5 turnovers. Literally everyone else on the team has a negative ratio.

So compared to the rest of the team, Harris and Everett do shoot the ball well. And Harris is, by far, the best passer on this team. If you actually watch the games and you can't see that I don't know what to say.

I’m conflicted. I see both sides of this argument. We have lost by 40 with Day and Jayla. At least today they didn’t they were competitive. I get tired of hearing we cut the score to x after being down by 30 and being sold that is improvement.

The team is much like the men’s basketball team. They try and play hard, but can’t score. The talent is getting better, but they need to get some more wins in conference.

I think it was a mistake not to recognize who they were and continue to count on them.

They should have been recruited over. Unfortunately our coach decided they were good enough to be the heart of the team, That was a mistake And hopefully ends this season.

Go with the local girl. Get the 2 WVU recruits.

Yeah, good call. They should have recruited five of the top ten or so players in the country last year and then these players on the team now would be backups at best.

I wonder why they didn't think of that?

Don’t be a jerk.

I am saying recognize your 2 best players are not good enough to be your 2 best players.

Recognize the “need” to upgrade. I don’t believe our coach did. He actually believed he could win with these 2.

They are Xaiver Johnson and Femi Odukale. Chickens with their heads cut off. Tease you with flashes, but it is just a tease.

The talent is getting better, but they need to get some more wins in conference.

As I said after the last game, part of that is due to the ridiculous schedule they ended up with. They are 1-7. All seven of those losses have come to the teams that are in the top seven in the current standings. They beat the one team that they played that wasn't in the top seven.

If you watched the game today, at one point they talked about ESPN's latest women's bracketology. All seven of our losses are to teams that they are projecting to make the tournament. The combined conference records of those seven teams including today's games is 42-12.

The schedule gets easier from here. They need to start winning some of these games. Both games this week, Clemson and Syracuse are winnable. Both on the road, but both teams we should be able to beat. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I agree. Also the guys are
seriously lacking in talent
and depth. The women,
although not with a lot of
talent have Harris and Everett.
They also have far greater
depth than the men.

I don't agree with a lot of
what he does with this crew,
but he seemingly can recruit.
Capel's recruiting right now??

Gary,
Harris and Everett can
play and they clearly are
talented. They have to be
the "go to" players on this
team. White has no other
choice than to make them
the centerpiece of the
offense. You've seen me
criticize White often on
this forum. Those criticisms
are aimed at methodolgy,
style, offensive philosophy,
etc. But let's not quibble
about Harris and Everett.
While I might not like the
results, I recognize their
talent.

Starting her over King is
something I can't fathom.
King although no all star,
has the size, moves, and
can IMO be far more effective
on the inside than Brown.
Anyway, I'll stick with my LB'r
description, or maybe a
strong safety.

If we play like today, and
clean up some of the
sloppiness while keeping
our TO's low we can beat
them. We were more in
control today on the
offensive end. They need
to do more of the same.

I don't get it either. King has had some good games earlier in the season when she was getting more playing time. Now she barely plays, and sometimes doesn't play at all.

Baring foul trouble I would be finding a way to play King, Strother and Johnson 20 - 25 minutes per game.

That is exactly right. The only thing that bothered me about some of these losses is that we just got throttled. The games against UL, NC St and ND were particularly ugly. BC was a disappointment too. The last few games have been much better beating Wake and performing well against VT and ND.
