Pitt women beat Loyola Maryland by 30 something. LM is not very good - supposedly have one road win in last 27 road games.

Two things:
—Even though we played a less talented team, we were out-rebounded by 2 total and 10 at the offensive end. Coach White really could use a center for Christmas.

—When LM used full-court pressure, Pitt struggled and had turnovers. If we struggle against Loyola Maryland’s press, what will happen against Louisville… Scary.

Very impressive game by Ace Strickland. She hit 3s, pull up jumpers and layups. Plays with high energy.

And Emy Hayford had a nice game, too.

Go Pitt.

Pitt won by 36, and quite frankly they did not play well at all. That Loyola team may be the worst D1 team I've ever seen. You sometimes hear someone say something like "that NFL team is so bad Alabama would beat them." Well no, they wouldn't, and it wouldn't even be close.

A good high school team beats Loyola. Easily. I mean it's one game, maybe it was an extraordinarily bad night for them, maybe they are missing a player or two injured or something, but they were awful. They made one shot in the first quarter. One. In the second quarter they doubled that. At half time they had made three baskets. To continue a trend they made three shots in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th. I guess if it had gone to overtime they would have made five?

They shot 6.7% in the first quarter and 11.1% in the first half. The missed twos. They missed threes. They missed contested shots. They missed open shots. They missed layups. They missed from the mid-range. For the game they improved all the way up to 17.9%.

Their leading scorer had 16 points. Well that's not so bad, you think. She was 3-17 from the field. The one, and only, thing that kept Loyola even as close as they were is that the refs knew that they were awful and called the game seemingly in an attempt to not let them fall too far behind. Liatu King was fouled with a little over two minutes left in the 3rd quarter and went to the line to shoot two. It was Pitt's first foul shots of the night. At the time Loyola was 14-16 from the line.

BTW, the 14 points Loyola scored in the first half tonight was the fewest points Pitt has ever given up in the first half (or maybe any half) of a game in school history.

It sounds as though you
were at the game. Loyola
looked awful on tv, it had
to be worse in person. I
did see a few bright spots
for us though. Hayford
continues to impress me.
She's not great by any
means, but someone
must have worked with
her in the off season. She
is completely remade,
looks to drive and pass.
Stays in control and is
reliable on the point.

Strickland is a ball player,
not just an athlete. I like
her overall floor game,
she can shoot, and
she plays within herself.
Good on D too. She
looks like our best Fr.

This wasn't our best
performance this yr
but considering the
opposition tonight....
Anyway we do look
like a team with a clue
this year. Unfortunately
the ACC is soon on it's
way.

Yeah, I was there. She is playing better. Tonight she picked up two fouls early and didn't play a lot in the first half. And then picked up a couple more in the second half, so she didn't play very much at all. She did start tonight, in a very small lineup. Her, Harris, Washenitz, Brown and King. I don't think you can play a lineup like that in the ACC.

I assume he went with
that lineup due to the
opposition. ACC bigs
with a huge advantage
over us. They're not
just bigger, they have
talent.
