I was thinking about past Pitt athletes that have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated while at Pitt. Obviously, Dorsett and Marino were on the cover a lot as pros, but I'm thinking while at Pitt.

I can recall the ones pictured below. Any others?

Was the Dejuan Blair preview addition the national cover, or just a regional cover?

I have the first three, sorry to sound old, but to come home from work, check the mail and find the week's SI, open a quart of Stroh's,and read it cover to cover was one of life's great weekly vacations!

There are at least two more. This one:

I think we probably all recognize that guy who is front and center.

And the one from two weeks before that which was called "SI's Elite Eight (for now)" that had one player from each of the eight schools they had as the tourney favorites at that time on it. Sam Young was one of the eight players. I believe the other seven were Blake Griffen of Oklahoma, Ty Lawson of North Carolina, Tyreke Evans of Memphis, Haseem Thabeet of UConn, Goran Sutton of Michigan State, Terrance Williams of Louisville and Gerald Henderson of Duke.

I haven't seen a picture of that one on line yet, let me keep looking.

I have the SI magazine with Pitt being their preseason #1. Marino and his OL are featured. I cannot remember who is on the cover.

EDIT: OOPS! Dan was with the Dolphins. The color of his jersey fooled me. Sorry...

A quart! I thought you could only get bottles that size at the O. You must hang out with Pitt79 :D

Cover 1 here TD for Heisman.
Notice the Planet of the Apes guy in upper right.

It was Halloween weekend.

I imagine some of the posters on this board got poster-sized prints of the “Pitt Is It” cover from me way back when. I had it framed and sent copies of the data file used by the graphics artist to anyone who wanted one (and agreed not to print copies to sell) for a couple of years in return for reimbursement for the postage.

Here is how times have changed: Back then, the file format I sent to everyone was the gold standard used by graphic artists to print posters and high quality, large prints. My 40 year old poster has faded due to years of exposure to the sun. I took the original cd disc to a Kinkos to have a new copy printed. No one there even had heard of that kind of a file. The equipment they use there now couldn’t even recognize it. Fortunately, I still have the original cover. They were able to take a shot of it using their high-tech equipment and then make me a new poster from it.
