I have an article coming shortly on the use of freshmen in Saturday's game, but I also thought this was interesting. I looked back at the last few years to see how this year's numbers - 5 freshmen played - compared to previous years.
2017 - 5: Tyler Sear, Jason Pinnock, Damarri Mathis, Cal Adomitis, AJ Davis
2016 - 1: Amir Watts
2015 - 4: Tre Tipton, Darrin Hall, Jordan Whitehead, Quadree Henderson
2014 - 5: Chris James, Pat Amara, Quintin Wirginis, Avonte Maddox, Rori Blair
2013 - 11: Tyler Boyd, James Conner, Scott Orndoff, Chris Blewitt, Tyrique Jarrett, Rachid Ibrahim, Shakir Soto, Matt Galambos, Terrish Webb, Titus Howard and Jaymar Parrish
11 freshmen played in the 2013 opener (against Florida State, no less). That was Paul Chryst's first full recruiting class, and he was certainly determined to rely on them right from the start.
