"And I'm being Mr. Obvious when I say that UVA has waaay more talent."
No, your "Mr. Oblivious"
Brogdon/Young
Gill/Artis
Parentes/Robinson
That's the core of each time
No 5 star recruits there (some 4's)
UVA's players developed more and jelled better
No big talent gap, tho
Nor is there "way more offense"
Pitt 75 ppg
UVA 71 ppg
UVA has great chemistry and great defense
The ball moves around efficiently and quickly on offense
Great interior passing and assists
Just like some recent Pitt teams, but especially like the teams during the latter Brandin Knight yrs
Tony Bennett has a smart players and he's done a great job; much like Dixon except for the past 2 years
Without Brogdon and Gill, UVA is likely to take a big step back. If so, will Tony Bennett be any less of a coach? Will he be "clueless." Any player who goes there knows exactly the style he's going to play, UVA has no five stars or one-and-dones on the horizon. Is Bennett a terrible recruiter? A victim of his own success? Intransigent? Has the game and life in general passed him by?
I've missed less than 10 home games since 1972, and I'm stunned at lack of the appreciation and perspective of how much better Pitt became under Dixon,
Yes, the last 2 years left something to be desired, especially the lack of grit. But the millennials, at least the ones on this Board, who believe that every stray, unfiltered thought must immediately be posted, have often made this Board a sad and disheartening place to spend any time.
Judging from their reaction, I'd sum up JD's tenure as "Pearls before swine."
Dixon is gone. I'm not an insider and don't know what happened. However, it's over and like everyone else, I'm interested to see who succeeds him. However, the best UCLA could do was Steve Alford. I'm hopeful Barnes makes another Narduzzi-quality hire. But its likely to be someone who, to start, will be considerably less of a known quantity than JD. And duplicating or exceeding JD's record will be tough to do.
