POLL: Kentucky or the Field??

it comes down to this.....

Any team can lose a game in the tourney-but realistically, who's gonna beat them?

I wish something could be done to break up the Calipari cartel and prevent that type of monopoly in the future. But until then, as long as they're rolling 8 future NBA lottery picks out there every year, they will be the team to beat, and the only way that happens is if they beat themselves.

Re: it comes down to this.....

I've seen pretty many teams go into the dance where no one could see how they could lose. No way could NCState beat Phi Slamma Jamma. No way could Rollie and his boys beat Georgetown. No way could Duke beat UNLV. I just have a feeling that a nightmare game awaits UK somewhere down the line.Kentucky will start hitting teams in their 3rd game and beyond who will be good fundamental teams that will be gunning extra hard to beat them.

im with you on this........

Re: it comes down to this.....

Here's the thing though-Kentucky is a good fundamental team too-and when they are focused, they defend as well as anybody. On the offensive end, they have weapons 2 deep at every spot. Nobody can touch them there.

Another thing-these Calipari UK teams have more and better overall team talent than Phi Slamma Jamma or the glory days UNLV teams. Basketball talent hasn't been concentrated into one program like this since Wooden at UCLA and maybe some of Dean Smiths glory days UNC teams. The equalizer is that most of UKs best are underclassmen.

They can certainly lose, but only if they don't come to play.

The question needs to be asked after this weekend.

My feeling is that they will slip up somewhere. It's just a matter of whether it's in the SEC tourney, or in the NCAA tourney.

the SEC is a joke in basketball they probably won't lose this weekend but I don't believe they win the NCAA championship

Obviously if you are betting the odds as stated by the OP...it would be better to take the field over Kentucky. And yes, the SEC is not particularly great this season. However, Kentucky has blown away college basketball this season. Out of conference they beat Kansas by 32, Providence by 20, Texas by 12, North Carolina by 14, Louisville by 8 and UCLA by 39. I'd say they have earned their number one seed. Despite the odds, my money is on Kentucky to win the NCAA Tournament. Hail to Pitt!

Re: Reply

of course they have earned their Number 1 seed but I believe they are going down during March Madness.

We shall see

I think this is a little bit different Kentucky team. Most if not all of their players last year did not get drafted in the NBA.
Therefore they came back with additional help. They are therefore not the typical four or five freshman Kentucky but the
Five sophomores and fess man Kentucky. Thus they are more experienced if not as talented. ( no Anthony Davis)

I think they win it all. There are no other great teams.

I agree they can be beat but I just don't think they will

I'm not one of those who think it will be bad for the sport if Kentucky wins it all. It might actually be good. In a generation where so many athletes are me-first, Calipari has his squad of young McDonald's All Americans all on the same page. It's a lovely thing to see. Yes, he can recruit. But he can coach, too, as his teams tend to get better as time moves along, I'll be rooting for someone to compete closely with them if not win, but would not be horrified if they actually win it all.

Well in a one and done tournament...anything can happen. But my point was, that beyond killing the SEC, they wiped out some pretty high caliber out of conference teams as well. Let the dancing begin. Hail to Pitt!

Currently just about everywhere has the field minus 120 vs Kentucky even.

Of course if you want to assume a KY victory in the title game tomorrow you can always bet the "Will Kentucky go undefeated" prop at yes +120, no minus 140.

One book (William Hill) put up the Kentucky undefeated prop at the start of the season at 50-1, and stand to lose well over a million dollars if the Wildcats run the table.

Kentucky's conference affiliation is irrelevant......

they are head and shoulders the best team in college basketball. Plus as Pittlaw pointed out they have mowed down a bunch of good teams from out of their league.

Sure they could lose a tourney game, anyone could. But who do you think would beat them?

If you say UVA, I'll laugh you off the board.

actually conference affiliation has a great deal to do with why they are still unbeaten, but doesn't take away from how talented and good they are. Once the brackets come out tonight I will be in a better position to answer your question.

Re: Kentucky's conference affiliation is irrelevant......

Maybe they lose another game or two in the league, but it doesn't change the equation in March. That's when they focus and take their effort and play up a notch. Bunch of future NBA lottery picks with a pretty decent coach and motivation = champs.

So again, as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what conference they play in. They are head and shoulders the best. If they were a 2-3 seed indeed is a one, it wouldn't make any difference.
