With the 25 point win over Davidson, our ranking in Pomeroy jumped from 32 to.... 23.

We will see if we are in the top 25 when those polls next come out.

If the people who vote watch basketball, we will be.

We are now up to #21 in Pomeroy.

LOL.... you might think that the impact of our whipping of Davidson is taking time to sink in.

But, what it is, is they input the results of each game as they are completed and, that can affect other teams across the board.

The caveat on today's win, is this is the second light, 3ball shooting team that we have whipped, with the Dukes being the other one... and the better teams... UVA and the Dukies being two of them... do not take such a simplistic approach to the game.

The OTHER thing... is the one team we lost to was HUGE. Purdue's starting bigs went 300 and 260. IMO we are less exposed to that now with Maia starting and playing better... but still.

So, should be interesting to see how this plays out over the course of the season.

I already saw that Seth Davis didn't have us in his on twitter..

Another interesting thing to note is that of the 20 teams ahead of Pitt, 11 of them are ranked lower offensively. None are ranked lower defensively.

So as much as people seem enthused about the offense and as much as that is the focus, it's still the defense that will define whether they're pretty solid or potentially elite.

Sagarin now has us as #18

Unless they improve dramatically no one beyond the current top 8 in the ACC currently look like NCAA tourney teams at the moment. At least that is what their Sagarin ratings suggest. The ACC #9 (NC State) is Sagarin #60 and with auto bids to mid and low major conferences that doesn't get you in from a P5 conference.

Here is the latest Sagarin rating of the top 8 of the ACC--

#2 Louisville 93.25
#4 Virginia 92.91
#8 UNC 91.33
#12 Miami 89.46
#15 Duke 88.94
#18 Pitt 87.95
#30 ND 85.41
#39 Fla St 83.31

By the way, Sagarin's "Predictor" rating (which gives more credit to scoring margins) has Pitt even higher--

#1 Louisville 95.86
#6 Virginia 92.36
#12 UNC 90.81
#13 Pitt 89.92
#15 Duke 89.18
#17 Miami 88.72
#30 ND 85.18
#39 Fla St 83.02

Sagarin's "Recent" and "Golden Mean" ratings have Pitt at #19 (#6 in ACC).

Sagarin has Cuse currently at #71 while Pomeroy has them at #48.

I think Cuse is down this year and may indeed not make the NCAA Tourney... particularly with Boeheim's suspension coming up.... but I don't think they are as low as #71.

Completely, completely agree!

The Sagarin point difference between #48 and #71 is relatively trivial anout 1.8 points which is less than the Sagarin home court advantage. In other words #71 at home would be slightly favored over #48. There are many fairly decent teams crowded between about #40 and #80. and the home team in that group will have enough home court advantage to be favored.

Even if Cuse is #71 the difference from Pitt at Sagarin #18 is only about 4 at Cuse and 10 in Pittsburgh. This is well within potential upset territory especially at the "dome."

Whats the value of not having Jim Boeheim? He is getting monitored and cant even have contact with the team, including practices. He will not be at the Pitt game.

Pitt is going to blow Syracuse out of the gym.

If you believe Boeheim isn't having input into their practices and communicating somehow with the team, I have a bridge to sell you.

I guarantee he is talking to his coaches multiple times each day, watching film of every practice, and directing what they do.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has notes being passed down to the bench during games either.

If you think Jim Boeheim has the scruples to be honorable and not try to find a way around the suspension, you're nuts. Jim Boeheim is as slimy as Bill Bellichek.

Syracuse has completely sucked since he got suspended.
