Is there a list of top names (gettable players) from teams who won't be dancing (NCAA or NIT) that could commit soon? Or is it worth waiting for the first round teams to be eliminated before going after them? I honestly don't know the "rules", but I have to believe that Pitt's turning down a postseason spot (NIT) was to be one of the first in line ... we need help in all the right spots (essentially, 1-5)

The transfer portal for basketball doesn't open until the 24th, so there isn't any real list at this point.

March 24th is the date that players can officially put their name on the portal, but as with past years I’m sure we will see some social media announcements of guys intending to transfer very soon.

Is this kinda like what's been happening in the NFL? Players "committing" before the official date and making it official on or just after the 24th? There has to be SOME "list" (or knowledge of who would transfer) among the coaches. And certainly (by now) you'd think that Capel and Greene have talked about who they would not want to return

No I mean that players will announce their intention to enter the portal but they aren’t allowed to have contact with programs until 3/24 which is the first date their names will pop up. Now, of course, there is plenty of backdoor maneuvering that happens so who knows.

Yes. Maybe not as overt as the free agent signings in the NFL, but you know that backdoor deals will be made. In this day and age of pay-to-play college athletes, what's the point of having "rules"? I've been wondering why they keep giving these players scholarships and forcing them to maintain a 2.00 GPA ...

The strategy will be to find as many skinny post players as possible to get torn up on the boards for an eighth-consecutive season under Capel.

They should at least know who among their own players will be leaving.
They try to get a handle on it as much as possible, but you would be surprised at the number of players that keep a poker face or intentionally mislead during end of year interviews. And some just see their peers getting offers and decide on the spur of the moment to test their market value.
