Is there a list of top names (gettable players) from teams who won't be dancing (NCAA or NIT) that could commit soon? Or is it worth waiting for the first round teams to be eliminated before going after them? I honestly don't know the "rules", but I have to believe that Pitt's turning down a postseason spot (NIT) was to be one of the first in line ... we need help in all the right spots (essentially, 1-5)

The transfer portal for basketball doesn't open until the 24th, so there isn't any real list at this point.

March 24th is the date that players can officially put their name on the portal, but as with past years I’m sure we will see some social media announcements of guys intending to transfer very soon.

Is this kinda like what's been happening in the NFL? Players "committing" before the official date and making it official on or just after the 24th? There has to be SOME "list" (or knowledge of who would transfer) among the coaches. And certainly (by now) you'd think that Capel and Greene have talked about who they would not want to return

No I mean that players will announce their intention to enter the portal but they aren’t allowed to have contact with programs until 3/24 which is the first date their names will pop up. Now, of course, there is plenty of backdoor maneuvering that happens so who knows.

Yes. Maybe not as overt as the free agent signings in the NFL, but you know that backdoor deals will be made. In this day and age of pay-to-play college athletes, what's the point of having "rules"? I've been wondering why they keep giving these players scholarships and forcing them to maintain a 2.00 GPA ...

The strategy will be to find as many skinny post players as possible to get torn up on the boards for an eighth-consecutive season under Capel.

Ya, think there are a few websites that track/project transfers. You’d think coaching staffs have a pretty good idea of who will be available.
They should at least know who among their own players will be leaving.

They try to get a handle on it as much as possible, but you would be surprised at the number of players that keep a poker face or intentionally mislead during end of year interviews. And some just see their peers getting offers and decide on the spur of the moment to test their market value.

This year, if Capel and Greene are being forthright, they will ask a number of players to find a different home for their next college BB season. And nothing to disparage the players, who are arguably "good guys". Time to be serious about what they preach; "walk the walk", so to speak

But the difference is that the NFL has a "legal tampering" period that starts two days before free agency, so teams are allowed to talk to potential free agents before they are technically, well, free agents. College sports do not have anything like that, so any information on people who will be entering the portal has to come from the players themselves.

Get as many as you can, preferably players with 3 or 4 years under their belts playing for reputable coaches. Guys like the ones on the 2023 tourney team.

Do you think some of the selfish play is a lack of coaching, or do you think it's just mostly this group of players?

The easy way out answer is both. Maybe Capel and his staff don't provide enough "winning plays" with their offensive sets, and maybe the selfishness of some players (Ish and Jaland) show up when the surrounding cast does not perform when a good offensive set is run and results in no points

In watching other games tonight, the ball-hog dribble, dribble and shoot disease has infected a lot of teams, not just Pitt.

How much has $$$ corrupted things? JC is not a good coach but.....how much of what goes on is catering to these kids? Letting them play streetball because that is what they want? Or a mentality of "this kid is getting the big bucks, so I have to keep letting him letting him be 'the guy'" no matter how much it is hurting the team (aka JLowe)?

Many of the kids dream not of playing college ball, but NBA ball. They are showcasing (or trying to) their OWN talents. Two bad that there is not a popular and viable minor league system for NBA (and NFL) that would cater to 18-25 year olds and even help them with part or full time tuition if they still want to go to school.
