Positive ESPN article on Pitt

Appreciate you linking the article. Haven’t read a positive piece like that in a national publication about Pitt football for quite some time.

Hale is a good writer and knows the ACC, so he’s been around Pitt teams and coaches previously. Some interesting personal insights in there: about individuals and relationships. Also about some of the strengths and weaknesses that have shown up so far in the first 4 games.

Going to be curious to see what plays out for this 2024 version of Pitt football for the rest of the season. Lots of possibilities. And of course things can go either way.

Good read thanks for sharing. It puts to rest that Duzz is some fossil set in his ways. Credit to him for recognizing a problem and being open minded on the solution.
Actually it makes it clear that he was some fossil set in his ways until the reality of a 3-9 season slapped him in the face.

When you go 3-9 you better figure it out or you'll be on the couch next to us.

EXACTLY!!

Not really. It just shows Duzz is willing make changes to get things right in order to win. Regardless of what style of offense you run, you have to have the players to run it. The article also makes it pretty clear that Pitt's offense under Bell struggled in practices and scrimmages until a healthy, Holstein started to develop.

He's had to do some winning to stick around for 9 years and have a cushy contract that runs through 2030.

He absolutely has done some winning. And that cushy contract and his general disdain for change is what brought us the Cignetti/Jurkovec dynamic duo in year nine.

Remind us all again, how'd that work out for us?

On second thought, don't remind us. We'd all like to forget that one.

I don't think it had as much to do with change as it had to do with shitty QB play, lousy running game, and mediocre defense. Decent QB play last year & Pitt probably wins 7 or 8 games. On the flip side, insert any of last year's QBs into the QB1 role on this year's team and they would most likely be 2-2.

You don't think we have completely changed our offensive philosophy this year? And you don't think that was driven by last year's awful season?

And of course putting a noddle arm, gun shy quarterback like Phil Jurkovec in this year's offense would not work well. The problem is that the people in charge should have known that it wasn't going to work last year either. And apparently didn't.

Of course they changed philosophy this year. Where did I say they didn't? And Of course it was driven by last year's disaster of a season.

Insert Veilleux or Yarnell in this year's offense, and you still most likely come up with a 2-2 record.

Im sure everyone on staff last year knew they didn't have a QB on roster that could help them win games. Just as this year's FSU staff knows there's nobody in their QB room that has any chance of making their offense look respectable. Sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

FSU has way more problems than QB

Everyone’s focusing on that but his recievers can’t catch and lines can’t block

They got hammered last week
