A. This defense HITS. And they swarm to the ball. The defense is loads better than last year.

B. We have a QB. That final offensive drive, Peterman was the anti-Tino. He actually came through in the clutch.

C. We play disciplined. Very few penalties, and I don't remember a single pre-snap penalty despite the loud hostile crowd.

D. Tyler Boyd is going to make a whole lot of money next year.

Run defense and defense overall is quicker

Pitt also answered Iowa ' s score by driving 80 yards and converting multiple 4th down plays. Seems like pitt answered the bell. Kid just made a hell of a kick

You have an impressive team. At least that's what I'm hoping. The hitting is going to get to MSU level for Pitt, although it isn't there yet.

I think you saw two above average football teams that have plenty to work on after last night, but are both going to surprise some people.

He made a hell of a kick after we gave up 30 yards. And yes, our offense answered the bell after the defense gave up an 80 yard drive.

We gave up 31 yards on that last drive, in which the QB scrambled for 27 of them. He only completed 1 pass for 4 yards because we had good coverage. Last year we would have given up a TD or given up a huge completion that would have led to a chip shot. We still lost, but I'll gladly allow most kickers to try a 57 yard FG attempt for the win. Sometimes you have to tip your hat. The dude made the kick that had the distance for a 63 or 64 yarder.

Also cannot overlook the poor special teams play that set Iowa up in decent field position on the kick off. Missed tackles killed on that series and put Iowa in the position to win with a long field goal--which they obviously did. Having been a Pitt fan for a long time, those of us in the stands could just feel it happening. Heck, Pitt nearly missed the extra point that tied it up. Hopefully the curse will soon end. Hail to Pitt!

"UPitt '89 was one of the Posters along with NCPanther that wanted Coach Pat Narduzzi all along and proved me wrong wanting Joe Rudolph to take over, and his own posts during the Iowa Game criticized Coach Pat on a number of things and was right on them too.

UPitt '89, knows his football and is a great Pitt Poster and Fan, and his post here above are dead spot on as well!

I wouldn't over analyze this game. Both teams were missing key players within their schemes and it's a shame someone had to lose but that's football

Was impressed with how well Pitt responded in a hostile environment and I hope it helps a young Iowa team improve. Iowa has a 6 man rotation on OL with two OGs rotating series. 3 sophs and a true FR in the OL rotation for Iowa. They had to grow up quickly against Pitt's front 7.

Pitt needs to throw the ball over the middle to their TEs more. They have the guys to do it

Special Teams are improving from what I saw, compared to not improving at all the last 4 Seasons and cost Pitt Games, this just the third game and it takes time turning it all around in one year, but I saw better ST, and Coach Pat & Staff might have made some mistakes on his calls, but Chryst did that in his Third Year versus Coach pat & Staff Third Game!

We have the year to watch if they can improve even better too?

Hmnnnn....just a few years ago, a Noted and Known Great Coach lost a chance for a another National Championship by going for a 60+ Yard Kick they thought was a chance to win before OT, and proved they could not cover, and another Coach won the game on a freak run back too??? Yet, a few here think it only happens at Pitt???

Yet, Boyd was waiting for the same thing prepared to run as reported in the Tribune Review and that shows Pitt was in the game the entire game, even the last 2 seconds, if anyone cannot see that kind of coaching, preparation, and insight and then blame it on Pitt being snake bitten or just the way they lose.....well....losing a chance for a National title by even greater programs and Coaches with all the resources is worse and shows it can happen to anyone, any coach, and any Team!

Unlike the last 4 and 5 years, these Players were focused, in the game, and ready to play until the last second of the game, and the Special Teams were far more improved just like the Players were ready to execute the Game Plan unlike Akron, UVA, and GT last year? The Special Teams kept Pitt in the Game too!

Did the Coaches and Players make mistakes sure, but they never gave up, unlike what we saw the last 3 years in a few games and under Graham and Wannstedt the years before by not being ready?
LINK:
"During the timeout, Narduzzi sent Tyler Boyd onto the field, assuming the second try also would fall short. “I thought, ‘Let's make a play,' ” Narduzzi said. But Boyd, who was standing under the goal post, said the second kick had almost 10 yards to spare. It was the second-longest field goal in Iowa history, and it boosted Iowa's record to 3-0. Boyd said he was thinking about a field-goal return similar to the play Auburn used to defeat Alabama in 2013. “They got linemen, all slow guys,” Boyd said, his eyes lighting up at the possibility. “I can run right around them. But it didn't go that way.”

Absolutely. The squib kick was touched and went inside the 10. We missed a few tackles and they got it on the 30 instead of at least inside the 20.

This is an incredible post.

"We lost, but at least we didn't lose like the way we would have lost last year. This was a better way to lose."

I understand where your frustration comes from, but if the requirement for teams similar to Pitt's level to beat us this year is to make a 57 yard FG, then it is indeed a "better" loss because the way it happened at the end is not a blueprint of things to come. Every time Tino wasn't able to make plays under any amount of 4th quarter pressure, it was a blueprint that foretold more of the same. Every time our D gave up far more points in the 2nd half than in the 1st so that the momentum of the game was palpably going the other way, it was a blueprint that foretold more of the same.

Our D giving up several less points and yards in the second half on Saturday, as the offense closed a 10-pt gap and twice tied it in the second half, is not something that fits the previous predictable script for losing. Losing on a 57-yard FG is a not a script for future losing. Obviously the gaffes of LPitts and the problems with the running game are potential scripts for future problems this year, but PN came in and lost his top-3 RB's, lost the best side of last year's OL and possibly this year's best lineman, and has adapted to our running woes by putting in a true passing QB over the incumbent. Even if his blitzkrieg recruiting tactics don't result in a great class right away, we can at least recognize it as a script that's more likely to produce incoming talent than in the recent past.

As of right now, I would feel really comfortable with any of our 3 games going another 5-10 minutes. In the past, a 45 minute game would have been perfect for Pitt. Sure, in the end we still lost to Iowa by a small margin, but this time it was due to a once-in-a-lifetime play by the opponent, not yet another major second half collapse by Pitt.
