Next to Villanova last-second loss on Reynold's runner, this is most disappointing game I can remember. I couldn't even speak after the game. The game was there for the taking, and Pitt did not take it. Some feelings similar to others. Some thoughts off of top of my head:
1) While watching game, I thought Wisky was kind of team could handle. Not athletic, lack penetrating guards, not overly quick or dominating in post. Good matchup for Pitt not taken advantage of.
2) When Pitt got ahead by 12 early, it seemed as though it should have been more. Badgers started out 4 of 19, yet Pitt just couldn't go for the kill. At 6 at half, I was skeptical.
3) Pitt dominated boards 1st half, but seemed to not be focused on rebounding 2nd half. Fouls changed this? It didn't change defense much.
4) Very curious of substitution patterns. Watching with others, almost to the man, fans were asking about increased minutes of a few players, who could add little to offense, and had not seen much late season action, while Luther, a late-season spark, sat. I don't buy it was a 'defensive' decision, Luther not bad defensively and can play out to perimeter. Can add offense, and energy.
5) Artis hit a few 3s, but Young, a necessary component, was not a factor. They needed to get him more shots.
6) Pitt just doesn't have personnel to break down defense for kick-outs for 3s. Little 'creation' in off.
7) This game was not an 'effort' thing. Pitt played hard, it showed on defense, but offense was frustrating, and lack of it will be talked about nationally. I wonder what recruits think watching a game like this. HS prospects think offense first.
8) I'm wondering what it takes to reverse Pitt's fortunes. Obviously better recruiting, but the less you get impactful wins, the harder recruiting is. Pitt's defense improved much late in season, but offense, except for Duke game, withered.
9) Pitt's program needs a spark, or attendance and recruiting will be affected. Maybe next year's group can make good things happen, or I mediocrity will be it's face, and tough to reverse. I think most fans feel the same. HTP.
