1. shawn watson needs to go. let me expound:
* rolling kenny left again. did it at least 4 times. there was nothing there. nothing.
* you have to know that, when the defense is WAY faster than your offense, you don't try to play a sideline to sideline game. it doesn't work.
* never took any kind of shot downfield. i don't know if you could see it if you were watching via tv, but clemson didn't even bother covering anything in the middle of the field.
* pre-snap penalties. the first delay of game, KP is hollering for the call. nothing comes in. then have to call a timeout after to avoid a 2nd? my lord. all night. shooting ourselves in the foot against a superior opponent can't happen. it just can't. i can actually live with a few holding calls.
* these are all things we've seen all season. nothing is better. what a catastrophe.
2. PN: make no mistake, that was Pat's call to throw the ball before half time. that comes from the HC. if not, it's the HC who overrules it. that abomination was on him.
3. KP: if we're going to truly do a spread or heavy RPO stuff, KP is not your guy. we need someone way faster. if we want to run a pro-style offense, KP is probably not your guy, either. sort of a tweener. still, OCSW didn't put him in any chance to succeed this season. clearly, there is no progress with KP. i actually don't think it matters who plays QB if watson is the coordinator.
4. lawrence: he made 4 nice throws and 2 nice plays with his feet. otherwise, not a great game.
5. clemson - full credit for being 13-0. but that's not a strong team. bama will hammer them. i think they'll beat ND because they are better but it's not by a lot.
6. defense: i know the scoreboard said 42 points but that's not a fair story to tell. they played well. pinnock went out and thought we'd get burned. he came back in and made some nice plays. the DL didn't get blown up - they held their own. obviously the first play was terrible. but that unit got better all season. linebackers didn't have a bad game. not having wirginis hurt in the middle this game. but kudos to bates and the players.
7. we could've won that game. i'm not kidding. i'm not saying we win that 5/10 games. but we just shot ourselves in the foot again, and again, and again. pair that with a horrendous offensive gameplan, and execution, and you lose by 32. any competent offense and we keep it fairly even and maybe get a break or two.
8. still great to be there, in the championship game. but we have a lot to do. this was such an inconsistent season. we have some massive problems that need fixed. and they aren't difficult ones - basic fundamentals. and making those mistakes over, and over, and over again. that can't happen. pat has to do better.
9. sell out to get matt canada. get him back here. he and pat obviously work well together.
