According to an article in the PG, developers and Pittsburgh City administration are considering a potential new garage in Gold Lot 1.
The article states the parking garage will be... "Not all of Lot 1 — just a back portion near the football stadium"... of Gold Lot 1. I am not exactly sure what this means. May be the potential garage will be in Gold Lot 1A in the corner next to Chuck Noll Drive and the T-train line.
I realize that the development (e.g. bars, hotels, businesses) has taken up parking spaces; however, removing more and potentially all of the surface parking spaces will kill the tailgating scene and excitement about Pitt and Steelers games.
Tailgating to me is more than just boozing. I love to tailgate and socialize with friends and family. Tailgating is also part of the classic American scene related to attending sporting events, especially for college sporting events.
I hope they do not destroy more of the surface tailgating spots as it will kill the tailgating scene and one of the things I love about attending Pitt football games.
I am starting a campaign to "Save the Natural Tailgating Wildlife of Gold Lot 1" in a similar way as the campaign to "Save the Chesapeake Bay".
Peace,
NGF
