Prediction on Elon

DOGE is pretty popular.
That’s TBD. Efficient government is very popular. People like that idea a lot, for good reason! And a lot of people have liked the idea of a government entity with a mission of making the government more efficient. So a Department of Government Efficiency as an abstract concept is generally well-received.

But that’s different than approval of what DOGE is actually doing, who is doing it, and what that means for people. I don’t think there’s been much polling on that just yet because it’s all very recent, but there is recent polling that suggests that Elon’s popularity has taken a significant decline as he has become a more visible and active presence in government. So logic would suggest that the things that he’s doing in government would also be similarly unpopular.

Other than satisfying self serving interests, DOGE and Elon have no idea what they’re doing.

There is only room at the top for Trump or Elon. I don't believe that Trump will go quietly nor do I believe MAGA will support Elon if and when Trump decides to dump him.
I believe that you are wrong on both counts. Time will tell.

The sense I got was that he was no longer welcome. Wasn't going to be involved with DOGE or with the administration, and so OH Gov was his graceful exit.

I could be wrong. Might have always been the plan, but I kind of doubt it.
I think it was a little of both. The timing was perfect for the Ohio run. The Lt Gov was named as Vance's replacement just 3 days before Vivek left. Husted was considered a favorite for governor. Naming him to the Senate cleared the field of a major player. That likely solidified Vivek's decision to run. DOGE's structure did not allow him to inside it while campaigning for governor.

There were reports indicating tensions with Musk. None were ever confirmed.

He's a con artist who made his money from a pump and dump/rug pull on a miracle cure for Alzheimer's. The H1B comments should have been the nail in the coffin for whatever political career he envisioned pursuing, but I guess we'll see what happens in the Ohio run.
His big money came after that when his company was bought. He still retains a small ownership of less than 10%. But the company has a market value of $8 billion.
