The biggest difference I've observed since that first game is much better communication between defenders. Our help and switching has certainly become much stronger.
The only thing that has me a little worried is that our defensive rankings were fairly similar (in the low 50's) at the basically the same point in last season. Obviously, our defense slipped a great deal as the year went off. So avoiding the swoon that has caused problem the last two seasons is this year's challenge.

At the same number of games played or early Jan last year?
Tough to compare this year to any other given the odd circumstances.
Just making a general comparison. What's most noteworthy is that in early Jan of last year, our defensive ranking was in the low 50's and you saw where it ended up. So I'm hopeful to experience anything similar this year.
Rebounding too. 31st in rebounding margin this year to date, 278th at the end of last year. Champagnie being out doesn't help though.
Of course the meat of the conference season is yet to come....
