This is a university “professor”

You just can’t make this shit up

Professor Sophie Bjork-James also criticized pro-lifers for denying climate change and focusing solely on the issue of abortion.

The hyphenated name is the first clue that she’s bat chit crazy

Some pro-lifers point to the Bible to support their argument, “Yet many biblical scholars say abortion is actually not even really referenced in the Bible, and many argue that it is not a central ethical theme,” Bjork-James said.

She quoted Dallas Theological Seminary Professor Bruce Waltke, who wrote, “God does not regard the fetus as a soul, no matter how far gestation has progressed.”

Further, Bjork-James referenced historian Jennifer Holland, who “describes the anti-abortion movement as the civil rights movement for white people.”

Fun fact the vast majority of babies that are killed are black

Fetuses have become icons of life, representations of life itself and of one’s religious identity, she said. To pro-lifers, the fetus is “almost like a public good that must be protected,” she said.

If fetuses are positioned as the new hyper-marginalized group, then defending them becomes akin to participating in a new civil rights movement, the professor said.

Uh. No. Babies are Gods Creation. Thou shalt not not kill.

The professor also said the “anti-abortion movement” and “climate change denial” are “innately tied,” that both stem from evangelical support for capitalism and a theology that prioritizes human life over nature.

There is a “long history of organized opposition to environmentalism within evangelicalism,” she said.

She criticized evangelical theology for limiting the “moral theater” to humans, with a disposable view of the planet. Focusing only on abortion is a way to “pivot away from other issues,” she said.

“And I think that that is really what allows for them to consolidate their power within a broader conservative agenda” that “hurts a lot of people,” Bjork-James said.

Imagine that valuing human life. How awful

This is exhibit A why the government should not be funding Univesitied. Furthermore nut jobs like this are one reason why college tuition costs are out of control

You love killing those brown babies you say you love
I don't consider a mass of genetic material that hasn't developed enough brain matter to form any sort of higher functions or consciousness as a human. The same way that I don't consider sperm or ova to be humans.

You want to show me science that the brain of an 8-week-old fetus is developed to the point that its brain has the neural connections required for even reactionary responses, then I might change my opinion. But you don't use science to define a "baby" you use religion. I prioritize the woman that is actually living, breathing, thinking over a potential future person.

I thought there was a Commandment that said something like "Thou shalt not kill". Something along those lines, and it is in Scripture.

Abortion is killing an unborn baby. That is a human life with a soul and consciousness. It doesn't matter what color the baby is. This professor is your typical far left wing nut job who shouldn't be teaching young people.

Tell that to a woman who miscarriages. Or to a murderer who is convicted for killing a woman and her baby er a fetus.

More importantly I’m not surprised that Godless people would use “ science” to deny Gods creation

I stopped reading at "The hyphenated name is the first clue that she’s bat chit crazy*

That, and she's an anthropologist, a practitioner of pretend science.

First a lot depends on if you are making an argument for legal reasons or scientific/religious reasons. Because for legal reasons a woman might not even be pregnant during the first two weeks of her pregnancy (according to the state). For situations like fetal viability and abortion timelines, the extra weeks are added retroactively after conception. So when a law says "no abortion after 12 weeks" that woman could have been a virgin in weeks 1-2 of that countdown, and lost her virginity in week 3 of that 12-week period because it's base on gestational age, not weeks since conception.

But even if we're talking strictly scientific/religious fetal development, then even then the brain doesn't "appear" at 2 weeks post-conception. That might be the first development of the cells that will become the neural tube, that will become the brain, that will eventually segment, that will eventually etc., etc. None of those organs or systems are "formed" at the times listed in your tweet. Those might be the weeks where cells start to group together to serve as the basis for those organs but they certainly aren't "formed".

Unless you cut your grass on a Sunday, of course. Then it's straight to death for you.

Or...unless they live on lands that you consider your own. Then you murder then men and children and take the women you find attractive as sex slave....right?

Hmmm, I never did any of those things. I would hope you haven't either.

I haven't had the opportunity, but if I was a little more religious then I'd feel safe in knowing that it's acceptable. In fact more than acceptable, actually punishable if I let any of the men or animals survive.

He didn't. He's just a descendant from a long list of disenfranchised Canaanites and thinks he knows the reason his people were dispossessed

But I respect the effort.
