ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A program-high four University of Pittsburgh wrestlers were named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team, the league announced Wednesday.

The four Panthers include junior LJ Bentley, senior Dom Forys, redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel and redshirt senior Nick Zanetta.

“We are proud of these four guys for achieving this honor,” said first-year head coach Keith Gavin. “It’s a great step in the right direction for our program and we look forward to building on it.”

Zanetta, a business and information systems major, garners the honor for the third consecutive year. The Pittsburgh native has made Dean’s List three times during his career and has achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in eight out of nine semesters at Pitt. The 141-pounder boasts a 3.45 semester GPA with a 3.5 career GPA. Zanetta capped off his time as a Panther with a trip to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland this past March and recorded 21 total wins on the year.

Forys, a supply chain management major, joins the academic team honors for the second consecutive year. A four-time NCAA qualifier, Forys achieved a 3.13 semester GPA and holds a 3.06 career GPA during his time at Pitt. The Pittsburgh native finished his career with 88 wins, including 22 this season.

Bentley, a junior hailing from Twinsburg, Ohio, earns the academic recognition for the first time in his career. The 125-pounder owns a 3.2 semester GPA with a 3.15 career GPA as a supply chain management major. Bentley appeared in 10 duals for the Panthers this year, recording five wins.

Wentzel, a redshirt freshman out of South Park, Pa., joins Bentley as a first-time honoree. The 165-pounder boasts a 3.58 semester GPA and holds a 3.67 career GPA as a finance major. During his time at Pitt, Wentzel has found his name on the Dean’s List three times.

NC State and Duke led all schools with five student-athletes each, followed by Pitt with four, and North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech, with two each.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
