With the recent departure of Durand Johnson Pitt has 2 or 3 scholarships to give. Pitt has five sophomores and two freshman returning so the goal should be to supplement these seven. Here is a list of some the staff appears to be chasing:
1) Mike Thorne - 6' 11" center- a graduate transfer from Charlotte-
He has visited Pitt and will visit Kansas, Illinois and Kentucky.
2) Ike Naamu- 6' 5" guard. Scored 30 against Tennessee and two years ago scored 11 in Mercer's upset of Duke in the NCAA tournament. Very athletic and not a bad shooter. Another graduate transfer who would be eligible immediately.
He has visited UNLV and will be visit Pitt Sunday and Monday.
3) Rafael Maia- 6' 9" center/forward -Originally from Brazil. Another graduate transfer.
Scheduled to visit Pitt next week and Southern Cal the following week.
4) Malik Elilison- 6' 5" guard- from New Jersey. Son of former Louisville standout Purvis Ellison.
Visited South Carolina. Pitt, Maryland, Temple, Minnesota and Xavier have all reportedly offered him.
5) Ahmad Gilbert-6'6" SF- Class A Player of the Year in PA. Decimated from George Mason.
Pitt, George Mason, Temple and Minnesota have all offered. Penn State and Boston College have also reached out recently.
6) Cheick Diallo (6' 9") Won MVP awards at McDonadls and Jordan Classics.
He lists Pitt in his top five but realistically Pitt is seldom mentioned except on the PantherLair. Best hope is that he wants to join Pitt commit Damon Wilson. A long shot right now.
7) Maverick Rowan-6'7" guard-Trying to reclassify and lists Pitt in his top ten. Not sure if he will get eligible. If he does Pitt might be a long shot.
8) Ricky Tarrant-6' 2" guard-transfer from Alabama Pitt has reached out but not sure what the interest level is on either end.
Ideally you get two graduate transfers and a true freshman to go along with Damon Wilson (4 stars) and JUCO Rozelle Nix (6' 11").
