Pull the Plug Already

Anyone who thinks running this same team back and adding a grad transfer or two is going to magically turn this into a good team next year is greatly mistaken — or drinking the Capel family kool-aid.

No one will watch if Capel is back next season, so pull the plug and start fresh so there is hope.

Big problem with that: minus Sonny delivering Howland, who brought Dixon, Pitt has never hired a very good basketball coach in its existence.

WF was garbage the 10 years prior to hiring Steve Forbes. Finding a good coach isn’t the equivalent to creating world peace. It can be done.

Commentator just remarked that it looks like Wake is playing a game of HORSE. No ball pressure.

The team is checked out, too much 1 on 1 ball now and trying to pad the stat sheet for their next stop.

Doc Chipman was good. As well as Buzz and Tim with their amoeba D. Howland didn’t ride into Oakland with two peach baskets while he was inventing the game. There were good coaches before.

So who are the 2 or 3 big Pitt boosters who are going to go to the administration and make this happen?

No one’s watching now !

The only thing JC has going for him now is his contract . On a performance basis sad to say he’s been a colossal bust .

And despite the miss on Capel, we have an AD that has a shot to get it right. And despite being a hated AD who failed many many times in his career, Steve Peterson made a great hire for basketball in Howland. I agree that it can be done.

The hope for this program got put on life support by Scottie Reynolds, and it has been nothing but disappointment and underachieving since by its coaches and the players they brought in. Pitt has become the equivalent of Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Stanford. An occasional good year. A really good player now and again. It doesn't matter who they bring in to coach the program - next year - or ten years from now. I have lost all hope for anything to change.

The team we are playing tonight had a 10 year run of futility prior to hiring Forbes. Why do you have such a loser mentality concerning our program?

Truth. Crappy coach we hate now or crappy coach we’ll hate in two years.

It's not a loser mentality. It is 30 years of watching the relatively same story over and over again - it just isn't going to change. Some nice seasons will emerge now and then, but little else. It is a reality attitude.

Ever heard of Ben Howland and Jamie Dixon? There was a lot of good basketball played over that span.

Hmmm ... we WERE a #1 seed two years after that.

Fair enough. Some good seasons to be sure. Howland and Dixon got good mileage out of some rosters with plenty of warts. These last 12 years just don't give me a sense that things will ever result in a a Final Four, much less an ACC Championship.

Does anybody else find it strange that after a decade of garbage, when the Deacs finally have a decent team worth watching, they are still playing in front of smallish crowds on most nights?

I like Forbes, but I think a big part of Wake's success speaks volumes as to how weak the league is this year.

Maybe the team still hasn't found their legs from that spirited practice Friday?
I really question what they practice and the way they have been playing I’m not sure I would have gone to we are practicing too hard.

Even more reason to fire Capel. A good coach at a lower program will realize he can win in the ACC and advance his career. Hire a coach moving up the ladder who has proven he can win at a lesser program.
