It's nauseating reading these so-called Stallings defenders - whom I hope to God attended every nauseating home ACC game at the Pete - who are now criticizing Pitt for doing what many other programs do.

It is totally non-supportive of Pitt to support paying this has-been basketball coach fool's gold promised by slimy Scott Barnes and apparently somnolent Chancellor Gallagher. Stallings should NEVER have been offered the salary and length of contract he got. Yes, fire him for cause. In addition to insulting players, creating all too unnecessary drama over transfers, and sitting on his hands since January doing no coaching, he has ruined the brand.

Go Pitt lawyers. And the fans who want to whine about Stallings getting his pie in the sky 8 million, you are really not Pitt fans and you have no clue when it comes to the business of college sports.

Spot on.

Big money involved here. You play the game within the rules to get the best deal possible on the buyout. Nothing unethical about applying negotiating leverage particularly taking into account the shady dealings associated with Stallings' hiring. We're not playing patty cakes here. Then you hire the best possible replacement.

I hate Stallings and also hate this legal battle. Pitt is being petty and looks small time. They should've just paid the man an moved on. There have already been enough jokes made about this program over the past few years.

My expectations for the new hire are ehhhhhh right now. I expect Pitt to screw this up somehow.

Eff Stallings. Don’t give him a dime more than you have to.

Yep. I find it ironic that some people are willing to pay millions of dollars without any semblance of a fight, and meanwhile, Pitt is begging fans to donate as much money to the program as we can afford "because every little bit helps".

People with big boy pants on live up to promises. The fact is Barnes represented Pitt and unfortunately Pitt has to live up to whatever deal that dickwad made. Fight for what is right but don’t welch on promises made.

If Pitt acts like it is too much to fork over $10 mil, then are they really a program worth supporting? Heather Lyke gets paid well to bring in the donations and increase revenue.

Maybe she's trying to recoup what she lost handing out all those free sodas in the 4th quarter of the OKST game.

We don't know all the facts.

Why is everyone passing judgement or jumping to conclusions without knowing if there is more to this story or not?

PITT will have to pay what ever the facts warrant, whether that be a full buyout payment, a negotiated partial buyout payment or nothing if facts support firing with cause.

Why do people let the media play with their emotions?

Stop paying attention to the "fake news" coming out of the Pittsburgh Sports Media. They clearly don't know squat about what is really happening so they are exaggerating and inventing and supposing to stir up controversy and sensationalism to increase their audience and thereby advertising revenue.

Stallings taking another dime from Pitt is akin to Grand Larceny... He should be arrested. At the very least, he should be arrested for Vagrancy & Loitering during Pitt games. Any of us could've coached that team to 0-19 in the ACC at a fraction of the cost... Pitt should send the buyout bill to Scott Barnes and let him and the consulting firm pay for it....Maybe Pitt should sue them?

Lyke should fight for every dime.

Getting ready to peddle Super Dave for AD?

Not sure why you’re here, doesn’t Franklin need his head waxed or his knob polished? You’re slacking.....

Exactly. That's how the game is played in the real world

Stallings is Jason Kendall

Barnes is Cam bonifay

Two dopes who paid way too much for a pair of over rated bums .

That said......I never criticized Kendall for getting paid.....nor will I blame Stallings

Barnes....and his boss.....are why we are in this Sh$tstorm.....

Yep, they are the only major sports program to do something so cheap as to negotiate a buyout settlement.

Except for Arkansas, Florida, Oregon, and Indiana in recent years.

Stallings was terrible. Pitt is 1000% correct in ending this massive Error.

Ah, indeed!

$10 million, a mere trifle!

If Lyke amounted to anything as an AD she would immediately scrounge up an extra $5 million bonus to fork over to Stallings just to show prospective candidates how well we treat departing coaches who turn in winless seasons.

How much he won or lost is irrelevant unless it's in his contract that the buyout is lowered in the event his team goes winless in the ACC.

It’s entirely relevant.

Let me ask you this question-
Would you rather Pitt spend it’s limited resources say giving a failed ex-coach $5mil to not be employed-
Or would you rather they put $5mil towards the new coach and staff??

Seriously, I have to know your answer

Pat Narduzzi just wrapped up a 5-7 season, Pitt’s worst since Dave Wannstedt went 5-7 in his third year of rebuilding what had been an 8-4 team when he replaced Walt Harris. Narduzzi’s team lost to Syracuse and 2-10 North Carolina. Somehow He is adored by many in this same fan base

He beat PSU once. That’s all that a lot of folks care about. I don’t get the slurp fest over him.

Duz also had two solid seasons before the last one with big wins in each year.

He’s recruited well and appears to have the program headed in the right direction There is reason to believe he has a plan in place and room for optimism moving forward.

Last year was a down year because he was literally left with nothing at the Qb position. The single most important position on the field

Hard to blame what he was “left” with in year 3

Look I don't have the Pitt athletic department balance sheet in front of me nor do I know Heather Lyke's spending budget. But I can't imagine it's as cut and dry as that. If the sencario is really "we have to get the buyout reduced otherwise we won't be able to pay our next coach more than 10 cents an hour" then they wouldn't have gotten rid of him in the first place.

It was reported that the boosters had raised enough to pay the buyout which would not have affected what the next coach would make. Now granted this entire debate has been started by rumors leaked through the Fan which probably makes this a pointless exercise, but if that is indeed true, write the check, get him out of here as soon as possible and give us a new coach. Quit dragging it out.

Dude totally agree. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one to this day.

I’m asking you the question.

If one option is give the money to Stallings and the other is put it toward the new staff-
What is your choice?

Because it is that simple

You always fire 0-19 following 4-14.
Always

Narduzzi is definitely a whole lot better as a football coach than Stallings was as a basketball coach. Night and day. But this past year was not a good one for him. He'll need to improve on that this year with recruiting and results on the field. If he can't get to 8 wins this year, he may be scrutinized a lot closer than he has been. And with the schedule he's playing, that will be extremely difficult.

Stallings defenders I'm sure are just kidding about this. They can't be serious. No one is that stupid.

The buyout, no matter the size, can be paid by the big money boosters like Gallagher (PGT Trucking) and his other big mouth buddies. Let them each pitch in $1MM or $2MM each and it's over.

Unfortunately after the Stallings debacle Narduzzi's team could win 3 games next season and wouldn't come close to being on the hot seat. For whatever reason he seems to be getting a pass for continued mediocrity. I guess having his yearly upset of a top team takes precedent over his bad losses and bad defense.

I guess it's the contrast effect. With Stallings here, he looked really good, even with 5 wins.

I'm not crazy about what he has done so far. He is mediocre and occasionally gets a big win, like Miami this past year or PSU the year before. But at this point into his tenure as coach if he is any good at all, he should be getting us to 8 wins minimum each year and more than that on occasion. And getting us in bowl games that aren't exhibition games, which is all we've played in for a long time, if we even play one. This year will say more about if he is the right guy for the job.

Down years happen unless your Bama

The problems at Pitt have primarily been an incompetent Admin. However a fan base that eats its own Has not helped. The fan base helped get DW can and pushed JD out the door. The constant turnover on the FB side has ensured the mediocrity of the program for decades. It’s time to give a guy who appears to get it a longer rope to see what he can do

If there has to be a choice made, Pitt is already failing as an athletic department.
