1) I think I was most pleased with the fact that the quality depth I was hoping for, at least for the most part, seems to be there. The senior transfers will all help, although Ododa was the clear winner of the three today. Seems like he was always there to find the rebound, and he hit the game winning layup. Maia is a lot more bulky than I would've imagined, and I'm not sure he's quick enough to really help a lot, but he's a good passer and at worst can probably give you 10 good minutes. Sterling Smith was pretty quiet most of the game, but I think he'll be in the rotation at guard. Chris Jones, who didn't play today, would seem to be the clear leader for minutes at the 2G.
2) I think the story from todays scrimmage will be the tremendous play of three guards, Robinson, Milligan, and Wilson. JRob shot the ball confidently, and made the winning pass to Ododa. I think he led all scorers. Milligan seems like a genuine steal for an August recruit. Much better jump shot than I woulda figured. Quick...not super quick, but quick enough to get around people. Wilson, at least to me, looks like a star. Just carries himself like one. Great build for a combo guard, nice looking jump shot, great size. He's basically what a 4 star guard recruit should look like, I was impressed.
3) Of the other returnees, Mike Young played well down the stretch..had 17 points. Artis was very quiet, but he looked to at least try on the boards. Jeter had a nice stretch in the 2nd half with a couple mid range jumpers. Cameron Johnson looked good, total X factor for this team. Nix probably needs a RS, although he looked competent out there. Luther would also seem to benefit from a RS.
So...pretty good day of basketball. I think the guards looked much better, and at C we certainly upgraded.
