My Dad and I sat in the club section behind Pitt's bench, on about the 40. We were in the bar area at halftime, when this guy about 60 years old, 6'2 240 and still JACKED (he looked like he could take the field) approached us and put his arm around me. I am sporting my Dorsett throwback, and he said "Son, you old enough to remember watching this guy run?" I said "No, but just barely, I was 5 when he won the Heisman, but my Dad was at all his games". He said "Dad, you remember the 1976 game here at old Grant Field?". My Dad said he remembers it as a Pitt blowout (Final was 42-14). Guy says "I was a sophomore MLB starting my second game. Never forget being really jacked to play against #33. One of the early drives of the game, handoff or pitch to Dorsett, I shed the initial block real nice, met him face to face in the hole..........and then he was GOOOOOONNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!" So funny the way he delivered it, and he was still laughing heartily as he walked away.
On another note, a couple guys in my section were killing Bookser all game, but he kept his composure very well. Apparently he was stirring the pot with the fans in pre-game, and they never let him off the hook all day. Pitt sideline was extremely enthusiastic, and coach Duzz was heavily involved with the defense all game.
Great downtown venue, perfect weather, fun atmosphere, awesome win. Hail to Pitt!
