John Warren Geils, Jr. was 71. His band, fronted by singer Peter Wolf, was a party-style band that had several hits in the 1970's...out of the Boston area, they made it big after touring all over the country and impressing audiences everywhere they played.

Yes Freeze Frame & Centerfold were well know hits but Flamethrower, Angel in Blue, P-ss on The Wall were great songs too! Never saw them in concert one of the few.

Freaky. I was stuck in the car for a long drive and was listening to the Tom Petty channel on Sirius this afternoon and Peter Wolf was the guest DJ and he was mentioning numerous J. Geils shows that Petty opened for in the late 70's. It was the first I'd really heard of any thing related to the J. Geils Band for years, I think. Anyway, I assume the show wasn't live because he never mentioned this...though I believe they had the classic "falling out" at some point...

I wasn't a giant fan of the J. Geils Band but enjoyed 'em. Wore out a cassette of the "Love Stinks" album in my first car (stereo was worth more than the car...and it wasn't a good stereo). "Come Back" was ... is... a great song. "Freeze Frame" is good as well but got kind of sick of it, the singles got too much air play in the 80's. A couple of the album cuts are cool ("Rage In The Cage" for one). The live album they did in the early 80's (?) was cool too. RIP

Lots of these guys don't last long.
We're going to see George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers in June in Atlantic City one of our favorites. We want to see him again before he cashes in all his chips! We understand he burns the candle at both ends! We saw the Eagles History Tour just before Glenn Frey died no more of those.
We go to ZZ Top concerts every year not sure how long those guys can go and we like them a lot.
Flamingoes in March, Hit Men in April, Kansas in May, George Thorogood in June, Chicago in August, no concerts during PITT football season.

I don't think that it was possible to be in an Oakland bar in the mid-1970's and not hear "Give It To Me" on the jukebox. Certain songs bring back college memories, and that is one of the better ones.

Centerfold came out my senior year at PITT and was living off campus which was good because one of our roommates played that song all the time and we could go to another area of the house easier than in a dorm room.

The first time you hear that song it sounds kinda catchy. The second time you think - why am I listening to this and third you want to get away.

They definitely had some good jams.. Come Back was my favorite though.

my angel is a centerfold was my first favorite song.. the "take em off in private" line was quite amusing to me, as an 8 year old little swervin. RIP,

8 year wow!
I was playing cowboys and Indians, tag, hide n seek, fishing and maybe impersonating a doctor one in a while!
