-Narduzzi jumps from 50 last year to 42 this year. Probably fair - I think there's some ones ahead of him you could question, but conversely there may be some behind him you could make a case for over him.

-ACC Coaches ahead of Narduzzi include Dabo (obviously), Mack Brown (24!), Cutcliffe (30), Babers (34 after being 81 last year, no discredit on the 10 wins, but that was an easy schedule), Doeren (39), Fuente (38).

-Neal Brown went from 59 to 26, while Holgy went from 31 to 56. Hm.

All things considered, I feel the top coaches are obvious, albeit some a bit high (Dan Mullen 8?) and I can't argue too much against most of the ones ranked 15-30. It just seems really hard to rank 'em after that, and not sure what exactly all goes into the thought process.

Any other interesting takeaways?

Babers is too high. I'm curious to see how he does without a veteran QB. I'd say Solich, Mason and Doreen are too low.

Day that high after 3 games as a HC is a joke. So is Ferentz in the top 25.

I'd also take Patterson or Shaw over Harbaugh or Kelly.

Yeah honestly, I mean it is Syracuse, so winning 10 games is big, but we all know that was definitely a product of their schedule.

42 for Narduzzi seems about right. But it goes back to the OOC. If Pitt had been playing an easier non conference he would have 4 more wins and would be higher on the list. Babers is way too high because he got 10wins with a cake schedule.

Agreed. Narduzzi really had his chances to make noise with that 6-1 start in ‘15 and the 2 big wins in ‘16 - but with both just culminating in 8 wins and a bowl loss, not too remarkable in hindsight. And then there was this weird past season (when will ever see Pitt finish 7-7 again?) They just hit the ceiling once they finally make the rankings at 20 something.

Gotta break through with one of those double digit/bowl victory years.

LOL at any kind of rankings that move guys 20-30 spots based off of one season.

The Babers one aside, Neal Brown went 10-3 and 11-2 with two bowl wins in ‘16 and ‘17, and they have him ranked 59.

So he goes 10-3 with another bowl win last year, gets hired by the Hoopies, and suddenly skyrockets 33 spots. Why.

Most here scoff at the suggestion that winning the bowl should be a priority. "It's supposed to be a fun reward for the kids, they shouldn't even play the starters in the game, the best seniors should actually sit out the game". Others said the same of the ACC championship game, "who cares if we lose it, we're supposed to lose it, just winning the coastal is the feather in the cap, fans get too greedy, this is just a silly game, etc." But then some of the same will point at the high number of losses and the resultant lack of buzz and mediocre recruiting as reasons that Narduzzi is a subpar coach. "He'll have to prove more to me". Well in that case you better hold him accountable to win these "meaningless exhibitions" at the end of the season. Because people are looking at the whole body of work.

They only do that because Pitt keeps losing them.

Eh, they won six games in the ACC. ND handled them and Pitt was their worst loss (ranking wise). If you look deeper, they're quietly recruiting a little better every year. But yeah, everyone knows they played some garbage OOC games but ten wins helps perception a lot.

Winning a bowl is important to me in the sense that it ends the season/opens the looong offseason on a positive note. And it definitely helps with perception and momentum. Plus what the hell, we haven't seen Pitt win one since that Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl back when Aaron Donald was still around. And I feel like Pitt was favored and/or at least had a good chance at winning most of the bowl games they've lost since. Something's gotta give.

As for the ACC championship, sure, Clemson made quick work of much tougher opponents... so while I don't feel too much shame, I still felt great annoyance in them getting beat the way they did.

I get that. He also took over one the easiest programs to be successful at and ran it into the ground over his last 4 years.
He was 38-13 his last 4 years at FSU, and won 9 games in his first year at A&M. If that is what you call running it into the ground, then sign me up.
