The Brazilian Brown transfer is on campus, enrolled and eligible to play this year.

See....all you negative naysayers. Just be positive like I am.

Gee Wiz RRTB... nice to see you get up to the point I got up to 10 posts ago (lol).

DT sez that there may still be a concern that Rafael still has a year of eligibility remaining.. and I have no reason to doubt him so.... probably we are not gonna know anything more on this until someone asks Dixon.... and maybe even not then (e.g. the issues still not resolved... probably need a stamp of approval from the NCAA... but SHOULD be no problem here).

The thing is.... if Rafael was NOT eligible... that would eliminate most concerns about rotation. You would have a three man rotation inside with Young, ANO and Artis... with Nix and Luther as the depth. Jeter and Jones/Slim would man the SF slot with Robinson, Smith, Jones/Slim along with Newkirk and Wilson handling the guard slots.

What we would lose would be an experienced big who is a bit bigger (10 pounds) than Young and ANO, and led the Ivy league in rebounding the last three years.

So, assuming this issue gets resolved... Dixon gets to work out the rotation inside and how many minutes each of the bigs gets. Yeah, the idea of trying to move Artis and his catch and shoot game to SF... is scary.

What WE get to do... at the end of the season... decide if Dixon went 'one big too many'... and if that ends up being the case... that would not be good.

P.S. Oh, he is not only enrolled... he is registered.

Someone from the Pitt News has tweeted that he has been ruled eligible (as well as on campus). Therefore, it appears whatever issues there were with the NCAA, they have been settled. This is what the OP is referring to.

Well, looks like we get to decide, at the end of the season, if Dixon went 'one big too many'.

I just bought my Final Four tickets. In all seriousness, I'm very excited about the Maia/Nelson-Ododa combo at the 5. I think that's an ACC-level Center combination. I think Young has the potential to be one of the best 4's in the nation. Artis at the 3 is the big question. I'm not worried about defense for him because he couldn't guard at the 4 either. But if he can be a "+" player at the 3, I think we can be really good.

Apparently you see Maia/ANO splitting the minutes at C, Young playing all his time (30 MPG) at PF, Artis playing 20 MPG at SF and 10 MPG at PF... Jeter getting the rest of the minutes at SF (20 MPG).. and Robinson, Smith and Jones splitting the minutes at guard (that leaves Newkirk, Wilson and Slim getting minutes here and there, and Nix and Luther probably getting RSed).

Maybe IMO.... but then again...

* Dixon has been tending to 'go small' for some years now.... would be real surprised to see him back off.
* Mike Young got time at PF, some last year and a lot more the previous year... and did not excel there. Seems to be better offensively against Cs that he has a quickness advantage over.
* Artis at SF was tried last year and did not work. When Dixon moved him back to PF he called it moving Jamel back to his 'natural position'.
* If Dixon had been able to sign Sterling Gibbs, then we would have just 3 regular rotation bigs (Maia, Young and Artis) and things would be simple. But, failing that he then went and signed ANO. Why he did this I am not sure, but it may be a matter of wanting better defense inside... a shot blocker... and planning on working out the minutes later.

We will see. But, IMO we are still gonna be seeing MY at C (at least on the offensive end) and Artis playing 20 MPG at PF.

From the one picture I saw of him, I believe he is a "white" Brazilian.

Am I allowed to say that?

I am sure he is a BRAZILIAN Brazilian.

Enough of this silliness.

As opposed to an Australian Brazilian? Or a Brazilian Mongolian?

Or an Australian Brazilian Mongolian.

One who attended an Ivy League Branch Campus in Rio de Janeiro.
