Why don't I remember him at Pitt? Dementia sucks. My wife lets me watch Dancing with the Stars with her sometimes while I paint her toenails and he told this touching story about leaving a big school (never mentioned Pitt by name) to a 1AA school to be close to his handicapped diabetes stricken father. Does anyone recall there being anything more to his departure?

I remember when we signed him, think it was a legit battle between us and the hokies and it was a pretty big signing.. Think he only played one year for us, Wanny's first year if I recall. that was a bad team and I don't think he did much. we had him, kirkley and larod, none of which did anything of note that year on the ground.. the year ND smacked us in the opener if I recall and the Ohio U debacle.. He would have been a good one in that boring wanny-cav offense had he stayed..

No insider but the reason why he transferred back to liberty sounded legit. he was one of a very few (if any) players that left the program that I didn't hold bad feelings for. Glad he made it in nfl..

Yeah he was only here for one year - 2005 - and played pretty well despite battling some injuries. I think the story about wanting to be closer to home was accurate. I never heard anything to dispute it.

Good kid, good player.

Glad to hear the story seemed to be legit with him. Of course, NOT glad that he had the actual issue to deal with. But we've had our share of weasel coaches, AD's and players dissatisfied about their situations and making up lies about family issues as excuses for bolting. Just man up and say you didn't get your tail kissed at Pitt (or whatever) like you wanted so you're heading to a place where you will. Citing "family" issues is low grade.

Stats on Pitt's website show Jennings gained 411 yards at 4.8 ypc.

Ray Kirkley was on that team? I thought he played from 2001-04. I only remember him from the 2001 team.

yeah, he didn't play or redshirted in 03. I remember him having some nice runs in that first game back after 9/11. the "Lee Greenwood" game..

Supposedly Wanny asked him to move to FB because we had Shady coming in. That might have played into it.

Shady didn't come until 2007 and Jennings left after 2005. He left solely due to his father's health. Jennings and Collins would have been a pretty good battering-ram backfield in 2006 now that I think about it.

I think he was recruited as a DE and upon arrival at Pitt he was moved to RB, transfer to Liberty where his brother had played a/c parent illness.

I recall his first carry in the ND opener was a 10 yd first!

Jennings was really good. He played as freshman or rs freshman. He was after Barlow by a few years but they wore the same number I think. Dude ran for like 800+ in his first year and had promise. Shame he couldn't stay but glad it all worked out for him.

Wait - I came to a screeching stop when you said you paint your wife's toenails? Sarcasm is hard to convey on a message board, but if you're serious that is the sweetest thing I read all day.

That was back during that period where Bama wasn't Bama-also know as the interim between Bear Bryant and Saban.

Gene Stallings, not pleased.

Jennings and LaRod were recruited by Walt and came in 2005 for Wanny's first season but Jennings was a greyshirt from 2004 and had enrolled in January. He actually came out of camp as the starter but LaRod had a great camp too and they couldn't redshirt him either. They shared time with Kirkley, Marcus Furman and to some degree Tim Murphy who played fullback and some tailback too. (Miree was already gone.)

I think Murphy got banged up and LaRod had some good games. So Wanny asked Jennings to move since he was the biggest of the bunch. In fact, I actually recall Jennings being a bigger back at Pitt than when I see him in NFL games. I think that his dad's sickness was the main thing, but he also realized that at best he would be sharing time going forward and more likely he was pegged as the fullback as long a LaRod was healthy.
