Can’t believe it’s Sunday and Chief or anyone else hasn’t started a Masters thread yet. We missed the excitement of Rory posting a couple double bogeys at the tail end of his Thursday round only to get right back into contention with Friday’s round. Saturday’s 3rd round started out with fireworks from Rory and a few others, continued with Rory’s 2nd par 5 eagle on the back nine and then when you think the excitement is over for the day, Bryson sinks a long birdie putt on 18 to end the day.

Shaping up for an exciting last round with Rory and Bryson in the final pairing. We’ll see if anyone else can make a run to challenge them. In any case, let’s hope this last round lives up to the expectations.

I like both Rory and Bryson. Can’t go wrong with either of them winning.

That was one of the single most thrilling sporting events I have seen in a long time. First off, I am an unabashed Rory fan, so my allegiances were with him. Those iron shots on 15 and 17 and then the playoff will go down in history as some of the greatest of all time. The way the day started, with Rory double bogeyed I thought he was toast. To come back from that and another double bogey is just amazing.

He deserves this, he was one of the greatest golfers of all time.

And the shot he hit on 13 may be the worst in golf
history, the one on 18 in regulation is up there as well.

He made that way more compelling than it needed
to be but I agree, it was thrilling. I watch way more than my share of golf and have never seen anything like that.

Rory Chocked a few times and hit amazing shots a few times too. very weird. had he not won, that missed putt on 18 would have went down in infamy on all time choke jobs..

but great approach shot on the extra hole, a tap in birdie for the win. good for him.. i like bryons but man did he crumble to pieces all day. my man needs to see a therapist after yesterday's showing..

If he didn’t win that it would have been right there with Greg Norman’s epic choke job. And I’d say this one would have been worse because he had a four shot lead about mid way thru. Norman choked right from the start.

That was a bizarre round of golf. Epically good shots with epically bad.

Bryson couldn’t hit his irons. Had a case of the pulls and he wasn’t able to correct it. Up until yesterday his short game was stupid good. Was getting up and down prior. Finally caught up to him.

i love how us amateur hacks call these guys choke jobs, when they miss a 8' putt on the fastest greens on the planet in front of 25k people watching and 50m on tv watching..

Meanwhile, i get nervous teeing off #1 on a local track when there are 20 guys watching because they are hoping i hurry up so they can get started..

It’s all relative. Rory admitted yesterday to how nervous he was. But if you squander a 4 shot lead with 9-10 holes to go it’s a choke. Norman was a choke.

I fully admit I’d be likely to soil myself. But if he hadn’t pulled that out it’s an all time choke. My jaw still drops when I think of that shot on 13. He has all the room in the world left (especially with the slope) from only 86 yards and his ball lands right of the pin.

Here is something I noticed. Several times I heard a singular voice yell out “go in the hole” just as a player had stroked his putt. That was never tolerated at the masters and you could get identified and kick out of the property. Anybody else notice that. It was only 3 times I heard it yesterday but not something that the members want to hear. Only polite applause

no, i didnt hear that. i know they crack down on people yelling stupid crap after drives that were funny about 15 years ago but stopped being funny..

i love the no cell phones, talk about something that is just crazy in this day and age...

i hope the clown golfer that was laughing about taking a piss in rae's creek gets banned from augusta for life.

No kidding. Like putting on your kitchen counter, it was angled, up hill, down hill in front of 25K with millions on the line.

Love Rory, was rooting for him all the way, but he has a strong tendency to not seize the moment on majors Sundays. That was on full display at critical times yesterday, especially on 18. Glad he got that Grand Slam/Masters/Majors gorilla off his back, and that really showed through in his emotions and demeanor after he sank the winning putt.

That was one of the easiest 6-8 foot putts you could have at Augusta. It was a right half of the cup putt, and he started it left outside the hole. Never had a chance from the start. It was a terrible putt, and one most weekend hacks could make 50% of the time.

Those LIV bots are desperate to try and disparage the PGA. It's not working.
you know what's weird. i dislike Rory because he was bitching and crying about the LIV non stop. but i dont even like the LIV. i tried watching it and it's beyond painful..

and Bryson, really disliked him a few years back when he said Augusta was a par 68 to him. But now i like him because i really liked that "par 3 challenge' thing last summer and he does some cool stuff on social media (break 50 stuff).

so maybe i should quit going overboard with my opinions on people with very trivial stuff.

Regarding LIV, i know the oil money was too much to say no too but it has ruined careers. Brooksy is irrelevant, DJ, Rahm, Westwood, paul casey all just not even on the radar. i think keven Na has bigger demons holding him back. no bigger fan on this planet than Phil but he's in his 50s, past the age of competing so i get why he did it. even Bubba too//

Bryson and Patrick Reed to their credit are still major players when they are allowed to compete. wish these two leagues would merge though..

I'm not sure if anyone truly knows the length of contracts for the LIV guys, but it was speculated that most of them signed 4 year deals in 22'. I'd love for all those guys to take a step back and think, “hey, I’ve built a level of wealth that will take care of future members of my family I’ll never even meet. I want to go back to competing in the tour that draws real interest against the other best players in the world".

I'm not gonna hold my breath, but that would probably be the best solution to all this.

Without a doubt, Rory kept alternating between choke shots or putts and great shots in that final round. It was amazing right from the get go with the double bogey on the 1st hole that quickly erased his 2 stroke lead followed by going down 1 on the 2nd hole. Bryson was struggling with correct distance and/or hooking his irons most of the tournament but overcoming it all with his short game and putting. While he just didn’t have it in that final round I think he really blew it on the third hole hitting iron off the tee instead of driver on that short par 4. He gets bogey there while Rory gets birdie and then they do the same thing on 4. Rory goes from 2 up to 1 down to 3 up over the 1st 4 holes. Don’t know how Rory would have been if Bryson wouldn’t have let him right back in it on 3 and 4.

And of course, along with the good and bad shots, a little but of luck always enters into it as well. Rory was lucky his ball stayed up instead of falling down into the water on 11 I think it was. The sudden death hole, Rory and Justin both hit great irons into the green landing about the same distance above the pin, Justin’s ball stated up while Rory’s rolled back for the easy birdie.

Rahm was maybe number 1 in the world when he left. He has been a shell of himself since. I think the lack of pressure, only 3 rounds, and just losing their overall edge has hurt the good, in their prime, LIV golfers.

Guys het hot and cold. It happens. Jordie Speith couldn't be beat for a year or so. Now, he struggles to make cuts. It hasn't affected Bryson's game. At that level theres such a fine line between winning and being an also ran., Its why these guys have all kinds of coaches (putting, swing, strength, mental, nutrition etc).

This is a great point. In a sport where like 100 guys start the tournament then 50+ get to play the weekend, it's pretty silly we only pay attention to the winner. A guy could finish top 5 in every tournament for a whole season and never win, and no one would talk about it even though that'd be more impressive than winning one and being mediocre otherwise.

I think sometimes, some of these guys overthink it, and are always tweaking their swings and they lose what made them great and then their confidence.
