At the game I never really felt the game was in jeopardy. Watching the replay yesterday, I got worried and had to remind myself we won. The drop by #5 in the 4th had me wondering if pitt would have come back with under 3 minutes to go.

Anyway, for as much as the media talked up Barkley, pitt dominated the running game. Psu averaged 2.3 measly yards per carry. Pitt 6.1. That is a huge difference.

4 psu turnovers to pitt's 2. Pitt over 10 minutes more time of possession.

Pitt held psu to 2-10 on 3rd downs.

In so many key stats pitt dominated based upon our strengths. Obviously the passing game and defensive passing game are the areas of concern.

What is interesting is if we go up 35-7 on the nits, does the score get close?

The fact Barkley only touched the ball 22 times is boggling. Mcsorley impressed me but he wasn't the running qb I envisioned.

In the end, pitt probably only loses to teams that have elite qbs and ones that can stop the run. How many on our schedule can do that?

All good points. But in the end, it's the same message for Pitt every year: the only way that Pitt will win consistently is by using "the old, tried 'n true formula": play decent, respectable defense, and come with an offensive attack that is balanced with both running and the threat of passing.

I was shocked when I heard they converted their first 3rd down in the third quarter.

Part of that I'm sure is that Pitt raced out to an early and large lead. That and they were able to pass the ball effectively on Pitt.

The yards per carry is skewed a little by the sacks.
