Disclaimer: I am about to compare Louisville 2019 recruiting class with Pitts. I know Louisville has more resources, better facilities, and a better tradition. Plus they know how to play around the rules.
Right now Louisville has 3 commits. Two are 4 stars and a 3 star. They also have 3 more verbals. This recruiting class was all committed or verbales by October.
We have zero commits.
One interesting thing I found was the differences in their assistant coaches vs ours.
Mike Pegues is one of the top 2 recruiters. He helped put together 3 top 20 ranked classes at Xavier from 2015-2018. He also coached DC Assault which is one of the best AAUteams in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.
Luke Murray is their lead recruiting coordinator. He coached with Pat Skerry, Sean Miller, and Danny Hurley. At least Skerry and Miller are known to be very dirty. So Murray learned recruiting “tactics” from the best.
The third assistant is Dino Gaudino who is a very experienced former head coach. Also not known as squeaky clean.
At Pitt we have Jeff Capel but he can’t possibly be involved in the details of scouting and recruiting because of all the needs of our current team. Jason Capel seems like he may have the personality to be a good recruiter. But I don’t see our other 2 assistants as being recruiting aces.
This may be overblown. But results like these don’t lie.
