Recruiting Effect

I'm not sure how big a deal these games are recruiting wise. I'm pretty sure no one has committed to PSU since the victory over OSU. It's certainly never a bad thing to beat the # 2 team in the nation though!!!

We need Michigan to win out and Penn State to stumble down the stretch here as well. PSU in the Rose Bowl would be the worst thing that could happen to Pitt recruiting. Hopefully Sparty can rise up one time and knock off PSU in two weeks. As bad as the Spartans are, and as banged up as they are, that is achievable. I don't buy PSU, I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors to their record.

Could care less what pedst does. They have played 3 quality opponents and lost 2 of them. Their win was ref and weather aided.

Funny how they got so much better once the B1G season started. Ok, not funny but the reality is the B1G is really bad top to bottom so all of the "top" teams win/losses are all padded.

The B10 is the weakest it's been in a while this year and PSU has definitely benefited from that. That said the thinking Pitt fan should definitely be concerned about PSU winning their division and playing in the B10 title game. If you don't think that would negatively impact Pitt recruiting-starting with a certain superstar from Clairton PA--you're lying to yourself.

Certainly a great win opens up some eyes. It is a great starting point for quality recruits. As to the Big Ten, to many average teams to consider any win a big deal. PSU is playing well relative to the suspect level of the programs. Down year but no way Michigan loses to Iowa. Pitt secondary is why they are not a 8 or 9 win team. Pitt is very capable but the facts are they can't stop anyone who can throw five yards. Not sure how many ships are open for this class, but the priorities are more aware of the direction of the program.

The selection committee does not share the same view of the Big 10.

Also, Pitt should be able to recruit well regardless of what PSU does. They can't dictate how well we recruit.

I'll say this... for those talking about wanting to make big plays in a big environment, Pitt has two huge wins on that kind of stage this year. Granted, the gameday environment may not be like big State U every week, but that opportunity DOES exist at Pitt.

FWIW, I'm not talking about Jeter specifically. I'm talking about any recruit that shares his sentiments on this.

Wins like this have a very positive long-term effect for a team like Pitt. Emphasis on the word "long-term." Playing and winning on a national stage with the kind of energy and confidence Pitt showed last night help legitimize Pitt, playing and succeeding on a big-time football stage. This ads credence to Narduzzi's talk of playing for and winning ACC championships.

Maybe a kid or two who were leaning to Pitt will take the excitement from a win like this and want to sign up. But the real benefit is with the 2018 class. I saw a retweet from a 5-star DL guy from Ohio who talked about what an impressive win that was. It helps put Pitt on the same level of other P5 schools being considered.

Yes and no. I can see it helping because a recruit can see Pitt can hang with anyone. Maybe a recruit feels they are the missing piece of the puzzle. Outside of Miami, Pitt was in position to win every game and arguably with a better defensive backfield, they are competing for an ACC title. Win out the rest of the games, put more fans in the seats, continue to put guys in the NFL and treat your players the right way and recruiting will pick up.

They are playing a bit over their heads and agree on weak b10.

True. But let's face it, the Big Ten has what 5 really quality teams? Michigan, tOSU, PSU, Wisky and Nebraska. PSU only played 2 of those (obviously can't play themselves) and is 1-1 in those two games.

The Big 10 also has some of the worst teams in the P5 this year with Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland and PSU got to play all 3 of those schools. Indiana lost 5 fumbles yesterday, they beat themselves as much as PSU beat them.

I don't take anything away from PSU, they are capitalizing on all the advantages they have, and ran with it. But they really aren't that good.

I was impressed with their win yesterday. PSU was without 3 starting OL. That unit isn't that good at full strength and sure doesn't have much quality depth, but they found a way to get the W.

Recruits were paying attention and Peak posted it on the pay side. One of the guysreferred to the team as "we" so that's an excellent sign. Don't want to divulge names because I'm not sure what I'm not supposed to share.
