Coach Fisher of the women's
volleyball team shows how to
bring in transfers and re stock
his team. Last season he broght
in a pair of transfers who
started on the front line. They
were all stars from big time
programs.

He recently brought in a Big 10
all star and a frosh all star from
the Pac 12. They are both 6'5."
Of course when you win 30+
games and make it to the final
four, those opportunities exist.
This guy IMO is the top Pitt
coach in his respective field.

Fisher and Vidovich are quite possibly the best coaches in their sport in the country.

Fisher has done a great job with the Volleyball program.

I've been wondering if the success of the program has impacted the high school Volleyball talent in the area. I'm not sure how good the talent was prior to Pitt's success, but it would be interesting if the success has made an impact on the local talent.

I have no idea about
Western PA volleyball.
Coach Fisher gets his
players from all over the
country, even California and
Hawaii. However, I wouldn't
be surprised if it caused an
uptick in local girls volleyball.

Vidovich maybe, but as much as I think Fisher is doing a great job, my guess is that if you posed the question to 100 college volleyball people as to who was the best coach in the country that Fisher would get the same number of votes that you would, which is to say none.

I mean there are coaches out there with multiple national championships and Fisher doesn't even have multiple Final Fours. For instance you might remember Nebraska beating us in the Final Four this year. Nebraska's coach, John Cook, has a career winning percentage of .827 and a winning percentage of .873 at Nebraska. He's won four national championships, plus another national championship at the D3 level. He's been to the championship game seven times. He's been to the Final Four ten times. He's won 13 conference championship. He's been national coach of the year twice. He's already in the Hall of Fame.

Compare that resume to Fisher's. Not even close.

Cook has been at Nebraska for 20 years. Fisher at Pitt for 8. And when Cook took over the program they were already a national power with 18 consecutive NCAA appearances and 6 natties. When Fisher took over Pitt, well let's just say Pitt wasn't very good.

I know Nebraska volleyball is elite so I am sure there coach is one of the best, if not THE best. However, Fisher has basically done a Bruce Pearl at Auburn or Tony Bennett at UVa as in taking over a mediocre at best program and turning them into a NC conendor. Those arent easy jobs. For Fisher to do what he's done puts him right there for best in the nation talk.

If it was anyone else you'd say that maybe they were just using hyperbole to make a point. But not SMF. He firmly believes every one of those things.
