When Pitt adds a recruit and fans look at what other schools offered a player, which schools do you find the most impressive that we beat out? Basically schools that seem to get their pick of whoever they want, making it impressive if we get a player they want.

Who would you have on the short list? Would you add/subtract anyone from this list?

Alabama
Florida
LSU
Michigan
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Texas
USC

Second Tier:
FSU, Miami, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Oklahoma St, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, Ped St

We'll never beat out the top tier schools for a player. I don't look at other scholarship offers thinking we beat those guys out. I look at them thinking if the coaches from the top tier schools thought enough of this guy to be a player on their roster, then he's definately good enough for Pitt.

Explain why FSU and Clemson are "second tier"....when Florida is first Tier?

What has Fla done since Tebow left?

FSU and Clemson both in the final four past two years.

Based on proximity, it's not that unusual that we beat Ohio State, ND, and Michigan for a recruit.

We've landed a handful of recruits recently who had offers from ALABAMA (Ford, Bookser, Camp, Whitehead, and Reeves & Munford who we're both supposedly in the lead for). Think about that: we could have 6 players on the roster next year who had offers from Alabama -- can't imagine that's too common outside of football's blue bloods and the SEC elite.

I just get the feeling that Florida's pedigree is stronger than FSU's and Clemson's to the point that it's probably a bigger deal if someone picks us over Florida than the other two....and now that I think about it, part of it is probably that for a player to pick Pitt over Florida, they're picking Pitt over an SEC team with a strong history.

If Pitt lands Reeves and Munford they'll have beaten out Alabama.

You really think Alabama is actively recruiting him still? These kids get offers with stipulations behind them.

Good question. Don't know but both did have offers. Guess we'll never know for sure if Pitt "beat" them. Maybe Reeves has wanted to come here for a long time or maybe Bama backed off. Like I said we may never know.

And I still don't agree with the never statement. I do believe a kid might come here for opportunity/playing time. It's a big reason we're still in it with Wade. Certainly the lure of Bama and other blue bloods has to be VERY strong but I'm sure some kids recognize that it could be easy to get lost on those rosters.

Haven't looked it up, but was under the impression that FSU outrecruits Florida almost every year.
